Let us take a look at Romans 7:14:

For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold into bondage to sin.

1) The Law is spiritual means God's word has a divine origin, and acts to lead the lost to Christ.

2) But Paul is "unspiritual" (using the idea Paul is expressing things in opposition).

3) Sold translates a Greek word used in some cases to refer to a sale into bondage or slavery, thus the NASB choice.

4) "To sin" or "under sin?" Here we have two very different views. Does "Sin" own us, or were we sold under the power of sin into bondage. Are we under bondage to our "unspiritual" nature because of the power of sin? I think that is the idea.

And who will set us free from this bondage to our unspiritual nature? The Lord Jesus Christ!!

No, it means the law goes much deeper than the letter. Matthew 5:21-48; Romans 2:28-29

and acts to lead the lost to Christ.

The law, "Thou shall not eat of it," gave power to the transgression of the law, bringing the sting of the death, to the man created of the flesh to bring about the need of regeneration into the kingdom of God.

1 Cor 15:50-57

From what was the flesh redeemed?
Was the god of this age, in the darkness of this age involved in the first sin?
Was death necessary to being redeemed from being under sin? Whose?
What about life out of the dead? Whose?

and when the fulness of time did come, God sent forth His Son, come of a woman, come under law that those under law he may redeem, that the adoption of sons we may receive; Gal 4:4,5 YLT

but the Writing did shut up the whole under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ may be given to those believing. And before the coming of the faith, under law we were being kept, shut up to the faith about to be revealed, Gal 3:22.23 YLT

and having been made perfect, he did become to all those obeying him a cause of salvation age-during,

This one of flesh had died. Made perfect out of what, he became?

Heb 12:1 Scripture 4 all- looking off into the, of the faith, author and perfecter, Jesus

Died and was made alive out of the dead on the third day is the coming of; the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. - the faith.

Better question,
A wretched man I am! who shall deliver me out of the body of this death?

Will when totally delivered have a body? What kind?

The law helps lead the lost, using their innate spiritual ability, to Christ.

How does the Law provide the power of sin, which is the power to cause death.

Transgression of the Law, knowingly or unknowingly is sin, thus results in the consequence of sin, which is separation from God, spiritual death so to speak.

And the law can refer to the specifics given in our inspired scriptures, or more generally, any requirement of God. Thus before the Law of Moses was given, death as a consequence of sin (violation of God's requirement] reigned. Thus in the general sense, the "law" is spiritual.

What are all of flesh being redeemed from? Is it not, the death, that Adam brought forth when he transgressed, the law, he was given?

From Gal 3:22 but the Writing did shut up the whole under sin,
From John 3:6 that which hath been born of the flesh is flesh,

I have asked before why was man [Adam] made a little lower than the angels?

Was it for the purpose of being sold under sin by Adam's transgression of the first law of sin and death because of redemption foreordained before the foundation of the world?

And so it is written,
The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

After, what, is that which is spiritual?

Does the Spirit of adoption bring forth the adoption, to whit?

Why do we groan within ourselves? Is this as groaning and travailing within ourselves ?

he who is doing the sin, of the devil he is, because from the beginning the devil doth sin; for this was the Son of God manifested, that he may break up the works of the devil; 1 John 3:8 YLT
Heb 2:14 YLT Seeing, then, the children [of man, Adam] have partaken of flesh and blood, he himself also in like manner did take part of the same, [manifested] that through [the] death he might destroy him having the power of [the] death -- that is, the devil --



As to the rest, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might; put on the whole armour of God, for your being able to stand against the wiles of the devil, because we have not the wrestling with blood and flesh, but with the principalities, with the authorities, with the world-rulers of the darkness of this age, with the spiritual things of the evil in the heavenly places;

I believe the fight is between the light and the darkness of this age, between God and the devil and we are caught in the middle, yet God has given us armour for protection.

It appears to me Job was just caught in the middle only God had chosen Job as his servant and nothing the devil could do would change that truth.

Right, death results even if a person unknowingly violates God's will.

However, when a person, such as Adam, knowingly violates God's will, then the volitional sin penalty is added to the unknowing sin's penalty.

Returning to topic, Romans 7:14

Paul being "fleshly" indicates his nature was in opposition to his spiritual desire. We, before being born anew, were under bondage to our unspiritual fallen nature. And the chains or power of that bondage is the consequence of sin. We are condemned.
