When we are confronted with a textual variant.
We are put in the position of either dening God's word or accusations of brothers or sisters of denying God's word.

Welcome to the boards! If you're going to participate this is what you are forced to deal with.

What I try to keep in mind are the guests, there are some who are actually looking for the truth of God!

When they read these boards and see all the confusion and arguments, I trust the truth is there with the false, and God can use it to speak to them.

I don't see it as about us on the boards, but about those who may be looking for the answers that lead to eternal life.

Hopefully on these boards we can lead them there, but I find that doubtful at times.

Discerning the correct words among variants within the 5500 Greet texts or even the correct source texts is vastly different from our personal relationship with others who may disagree with our choices.

I thought "When I get to heaven, I'd like a few words" with men who made mistakes copying inspired God-preserved texts. Or most often ADDING or conflating texts to help them deal with a passage their human intellect couldn't grasp. Or faithfully made copies of copies of copies of copies that were inaccurate.

That's because I never make misssstakes.

A key Protestant doctrine is the perspicuity or clarity of Scripture meaning that the Bible's main message is clear and understandable.

A person is not put in the position of denying the whole by the uncertainty of some variant words.

Just as there have been countless interpretational variances, so there is a variety of textual variances.
Awareness of these differences should simply dull the edge of any doctrinal feuds based upon them.

The Scripture could have been written in a way that totally eliminated all the confusion, but it wasn't.

I think for a good reason, and the reason the gate is narrow.

If you don't get the fundamental principles of Scripture, that being Christ, then you will follow on through the Scripture on the wrong path.

Of course, I don't think any of us have all doctrine correct, but we don't need to, we need to get salvation right!

Please close this thread. This problem cannot be discussed.
Normally, I try to follow the wishes of the person who started a thread. But I discern tongue-in-cheek in this desire and am interested in the topic.

When you get to heaven . . .

Man and his copying/adding/transmitting is the problem. God's Word is perfectly preserved for us to translate into our imperfect world
* We the readers are not inerrant.

* Our English translations, as good as they maybe, are not inerrant.

* Our handed down copies, hand copyed, have not been inerrant.

1 John 5:9, If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

1 John 5:9, If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

But this is the same old, same old, been discussed for centuries.

Wouldn't it be interesting to discuss WHY God allowed it the happen this way, He had to have a purpose in it.

We will continue to argue interpretation, the Hebrew and Greek, the infallibility of the Scripture, but why are we discussing this?

Why did God write the Scripture in a way that put man in this situation?

But I realize this is your thread, and your direction. It's just that my mind takes me to the cause and effect, and its purpose rather than repeating the problem over and over.

But then again, this is not my thread!
