Trump reveals how he could ‘get to heaven’

Yes, Mr. Trump's stated method of getting into heaven, was discouraging to me as well.

Once saved, then yes our good deeds, like trying to stop of loss of life in the war, might merit some reward, but until God chooses or has chosen to transfer Mr Trump spiritually into Christ, all Mr. Trump's works of righteousness are as filthy rags to God.

I cringed when I heard that too.

But Trump never talks in plain, simple language,
his speech is full of hyperbole, exaggeration, and superlatives.
He uses repetition and imagery in his speech to enhance events.
It's a non-literal way of conveying a strong message and counter his political opponents.

His message was not meant to convey a theological truth about how to get to heaven,
he's communicating that as a PeaceMaker, he's doing God's work.

Agreed. And I'm not merely trying to defend Trump as a Trump sycophant. T.D.S. works both ways.
He also speaks in generalities as well (even more so than average politicians do).
Contra how combative he can be, he actually likes to pick his battles.
Theological battles are not ones he is particularly equipped to, or particularly wishes to, fight.

Trump wants to go to heaven for ending the war in Ukraine. What religion is he?
"I wanna end it. You know, we're not losing American lives ... we're losing Russian and Ukrainian mostly soldiers," Trump said. "I wanna try and get to heaven if possible. I'm hearing I'm not doing well. I am really at the bottom of the totem pole. But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons."

""But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons.""

Sounds to me like he seriously believes his efforts at peace-making will improve his chances of getting into heaven.

It sounds to me like his penchant for somewhat shameless self-promotion.
He hyperbolically over-states his own accomplishments. He similarly over-states others' failures (in his mind).

Quite often, I feel those who loathe Trump simply take everything he says too seriously.

I see this as akin to him saying something like:

"I don't know if I'm the best president who has ever lived....that might be George Washington.
But, I'm certainly one of the best of the last 100 years.
Also, all the Republican Presidents like Bush and Nixon and were losers....
Obama was the biggest loser of a president ever."

He might as well have been saying: "I'm the best peacemaker since Jesus Christ"

I could absolutely believe Trump would say something like this...
It's how he talks and it's almost charming.

Don't take him too seriously. Don't over-think everything he says....He certainly doesn't.
