Way back in the 1970s when I was in college, there was a joke among my closest friends about moving to north Arkansas and digging taters.

The guys that took that advice before the Great Depression thanked themselves.

I knew a guy that planted an orchard and veggie gardens and kept chickens before the Depression. He said it was the main thing that got him through it.
