When I was a young person, the pulpit uniform was a dark suit and tie. Now, a goodly portion of preachers dress informally. But most avoid short pants, and open shirts.

It is hard not to make accommodations with the cultural norms of your audience. Vulgar words are increasingly heard on TV.

When we look back before the civil war, we see some preachers teaching enslavement was not unchristian. Never mind do unto others as you would have done unto you.

If you were raised a Calvinist, you would be unlikely to attend services where its destructive heresies were exposed. It is one thing to see ourselves as "open minded, willing to alter our views due to new information," and quite another to admit to ourselves we were wrong and have hindered the ministry.

How many preachers admit to their past erroneous sermons. :) In my lifetime of listening to sermons, just one...

How about Frank Williams, the Executive Director of your Southern Baptist 'State Convention of New York', and his two Associate Pastors:
Next time I see him - I shall ask! (and yes, I have met him.) The BCNY is close to my home.

Oh good grief! Every post is an attack on the doctrines of grace.

Keep trying, @Van, you’ve almost convinced every “Calvinist” on this board they believe destructive heresies.

NOT!!!!

Yet another denial that the Doctrines of Disgrace are destructive heresies. But no response to the overwhelming evidence.

1) The lost seek God, thus total spiritual inability is a destructive heresy.
2) God chooses individuals for salvation through faith in the truth, thus individual unconditional election is a destructive heresy.
3) Christ died as a ransom for all, thus limited atonement is a destructive heresy.
4) People entering the kingdom were prevented from going in, this irresistible grace is a destructive heresy.
