I'm not KJVO, but I am KJV preferred. Especially at this time of year, reading the birth of Christ in Luke chapter 2 in the KJV is just absolutely beautiful.

1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David

5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Nothing compares in other translations, imho. As someone who is 74 years old, has used the KJV their entire life, owns several other translations (NIV, ESV, NKJV, etc) nothing compares with the beauty of the KJV. Use whatever good translation you want, the pastors at my church preach from, and the S/S curriculum is from, the ESV, but this old dog will continue to use his KJV.

William Tyndale compares, since he translated in 1526, 1530, revised 1534, 35-36.

The King James Translators were wise to take so much from William Tyndales translation into their own.

Yes, I said it's a very same message and meaning, but it just lacks something, IMHO. I'm sure it's from my over 70 years of using the King James version, nothing else "sounds like" Scripture to me. Not saying it isn't, just sounds different.

William Tyndale's Translations, Miles Coverdale's Translations, Matthew's Bible, the Great Bible, Bishops Bible and Geneva Bibles are all like the KJV, because the King James Version was made from these Bibles.

You're not the only old dog around here that has used the KJV all their lives and will continue to do so.

I led a sheltered life in the IFB Church and never had seen another version until around 20 years old in the Army.

By then I was well acquainted with the KJV and the other versions were foreign to me.

But I'm not KJVO, if another version works better then use it.

I happen to be one of those individuals who believes that the NIV tends to attract a bit more criticism than it actually deserves.

I imagine it's due to the NIV's longstanding popularity and success, for the most part.

From my personal point of view, it's the New Living Translation (NLT) that takes too many liberties with the text.

Although I can certainly appreciate why certain people would be drawn to the NLT (and for good reason).
