Putting the Spin on Spinoza

No, but everybody is at a different place in their lives. We all need to remember that.
Indeed. But a couple of things. One, you are not exactly the one to comment on that considering the way you troll and mock those who have a view of the atonement different than yours without regard to how that might damage them. And two, there are many things written to help those in time of grief. Spinoza is not one of them. Acting as if all paths are wonderfully the same in our journey through life is modern BS (to use someone else's terminology).

When something really bad happens. I mean devastatingly bad, much of what people say is thoughtless and horrible and damaging. But when people are obviously headed in a direction that is harmful for certain, encouragement in that is not helpful. Turning to the internet is probably not a good idea either but if you don't have a helpful church I guess you make do.

So, knowing I am on ignore anyway (but also knowing that that means nothing if you haven't yet logged in) I will leave this quote and point in what I think is a better direction.

“We were promised sufferings. They were part of the program. We were even told, 'Blessed are they that mourn,' and I accept it. I've got nothing that I hadn't bargained for. Of course it is different when the thing happens to oneself, not to others, and in reality, not imagination.”
― C.S. Lewis, A Grief Observed

Jobs friends did well when they came to him and just sat down with him. And then they opened their mouths.

It would be hepful if you didn't lie. I have not trolled or mocked anybody anout their atonement views. I have ceertainly stated how much I hate PSA.
I am just pleading for grace toward those who are hurting. Too bad you can't understand that. I guess some people are just nasty. Perhaps the only thing to cure you of it would be a personality transplant, or actually following the Jesus Whom you profess to know.

There's a difference between slitting an animal's throat every year as a remnant from paganism thinking that doing such placates a deity's wrath, and eating a fish for sustenance. When I eat seafood, I don't consider that the fish is my substitute for the sins I've committed.

I think you did and I think you are a piece of crap.

That's for sure.

The book by C.S. Lewis is a better place to look than Spinoza. There might actually be some answers there. You on the other hand don't seem to have any problem encouraging people down a path to nowhere. And I'm calling it out whether you approve or not.

What I am encouraging is grace toward hurting people. But you are apparently devoid of that quality. Don't be surprised that when you meet your Creator face-to-face, that He doesn't recognize you.
It's easy to sit anonymously behind a computer and call me a piece of crap. I bet you wouldn't call me that in person. If you did, you'd regret it. Wish there was a way to make that happen.

Someone gets depressed and goes to the bar to get drunk. Buying him another round is not quite as bad as encouraging him to go into Spinoza. I do admit that it fits in with the other views you share on here though.

Now stop that, turn the other cheek, love your enemy… in short, honor Christ. Life is to short for that nonsense. The devil will alway attempt to lure ya in. Don’t let him.

So you insist on getting personal. So I'll accommodate you. I think you are a demon-possessed scumbag. Your turn, punk. Make my day. :)

Note to mods: I didn't start this, but I'd like to finish it.

I don't even know you. You could be a bit of undigested beef or an underdone potato, or AI generated. Or some college kid bored with his studies. You've always been a troll, ever since you have been on here. Now you seem to be mental as well.

I'm on ignore so @Earth Wind and Fire won't see this unless he looks before signing in but I would like to apologize to him for this reason. He started this thread, and I think he is out of line in his sharp replies to anyone who opposes Spinoza - especially on a Baptist site. But he did not mention his trials on this thread, nor ask for any sympathy, nor bring it up. You did. You had no business doing that. So I feel bad that this went in that direction. But you are indeed a moron and a troll and you prove that on every thread you get involved in.

And you prove that you're a demon-possessed piece of filth every time you open your lying, polluted mouth. Too bad I can't meet you in person and feed you your words. Go back to the pigpen where you were spawned and have a good wallow.

Ha ha! Yeah, you started it, so I was giving you back what you deserved.

Now if or when you go through what some of us here have, I'd be sympathetic to you and wouldn't reply the way you have to some members here.

But that's just it. You don't know anything about me. And I don't think it's wise to share personal things on a public forum. I respect the right of those who do and if you two go way back and truly have a personal relationship then I hope you can help. But Spinoza was brought up on a public forum and not in any context of wanting or asking for consideration of personal issues. It seems patronizing to pretend that Spinoza was not an enemy both to Christianity and apparently Judaism as well, on account of someone's personal trials - which EWF did not invoke into the discussion anyway.

Look, I have no desire to have a war with you. You can think what you choose about me. I just was saying, and hoping, that we all could be less critical and more empathetic to people in their trials and tribulations -- which we all have.

Well, that's good enough for me then. No problem.
