Lent...

It's Lent - eve. A special time of year for me.

I don't make a big deal out of it, but I have been practicing Lent for decades. Never been Catholic, or even ever been to a Catholic Mass, Wedding or Funeral. I do, however find the practice of prayer, fasting, reading more scripture and higher alms giving up to the time of Easter to be a blessing. It's a work and has nothing to do with my salvation, but still - I feel it brings me closer to the Lord.

Does anyone else?

I don't follow Lent as in a particular time of the year but at any time I feel the need I do as Daniel did in eating no pleasant thing, denying the flesh its desire. A reflection of the flesh vs the spirit.

Instead of that rib-eye steak I had planned it may be a pbj sandwich instead. I give myself to prayer and the reading of Scripture on a higher level, which I find myself in slack most of the time if I'm honest.

I set no time limit, just ensuring a firm denial of the flesh in the direction it wants to go.

If you want to, do the stations of the cross is a passion play reenactment. I always found that to be a humbling experience.

Never heard of the "stations of the Cross" had to look that up.

He told me to say the Lords Prayer ten times each morning for focus.. i’m thinkin rote but he is saying mental focus

Anyway along time ago, generally in Spanish speaking like the Philippines, they flog and in some places hang ppl on the cross. Talk about drama … that’s gotta hurt!

I'm not a Catholic, but anything that would bring focus on the Lord can't be bad for us. Within reason of course.
