SBC Disfellowships 2 Churches at February Executive Committee Meeting for Appointing Women as Pastors

I was ordained in an IFB church and the pastor was a Hyles-Anderson grad and was a bully and not very sound. I think he listened to his tapes from Hyles and just adapted them a bit. He would speak of hours of study, but one message I remember I went home and in twenty minutes proved he was mistaken. He was very much the "touch not God's anointed" or "don't go up against God's man" type. He was a bit paranoid with Napoleon syndrome…..

I am of Hyles! I am of Jones! I am of ____.

After all, the plan of God was one church per city. When the Baptists start merging instead of splitting we may see a revival unrivaled in the past outside of Acts 2. ….. God ordained one temple for a whole nation and we build a myriad of Taj Mahals dedicated to some man or school. Not cool. We will lose many rewards over our unwarranted division. Just saying!
My wife and I enjoyed listening to Jack Hyles sermons from websites that collected them. His style was to quote a little bit of scripture, then go off on a rollicking commentary, interspersed with yelling at unruly pew sitters. Later I discovered some things about Hyles, his son, and successor that made me stop listening to him.

The “touch not God’s anointed” attitude has resulted in so many pastors being beyond scrutiny, thus enabling them to get away with sexual crimes.

Why do you say that God wants only one church in a city? If that one church is led by a bad pastor, then people in that city will have nowhere to go. Multiple churches in a large city enable those without cars to easily walk to a nearby church. And if only one church in a city, that means it might grow into a mega church, where the pastor cannot really minister to or personally know each member.

And do you make sure none of your women cut their hair short?
That was a thing that would get men into trouble had I asked the pastors who ranted about long hair on men and yet their wives had short hair. Now that I am bald I finally have hair shorter than some of those gals. Opera singer Mary Garden in 1929 or so cut off her hair as part of throwing off the shackles of men. Marlene Dietrich was asked why she wore men's tuxedos relied, "I am tired of the men having all of the fun." It was the budding of the current Feminist movement and the Church followed their lead. Our men started wearing effeminate colors to the joy of our women. Hence, I submit that what we are seeing in the culture we have helped advance because we left biblical guidelines for the roles of men and women. Someone once said that where the World is today the church will be fifty years later. I would say it has sped up as we have gone along and we might only be less than a decade behind. When public nudity is fully allowed the church will allow the ladies to go topless. Indeed, many of our ladies push the line on modesty especially in swimwear, but I have seen some attire that would do well on Trade St in Winston-Salem or Harry Hines in Dallas.

I remember at Calvary Bap in Germany - the pastor was preaching on hair - on both men and women - when Pastor Bob mentioned how some certain females had short hair - one lady was wearing a jacket with a hood and immediately put her hood on. Then the Pastor mentioned that those certain women would put on a hood to cover their identify!

I do remember he mentioned - that as far as length of hair, if you are standing behind someone at several yards, you should be ale to tell that person that individual is a a man or a woman based on the length of their hair.

The old paths, but they said we will not walk in them. Jer. 6:16

I know what you mean about modesty, seems to be a thing of the past.

What is an 'effeminate color'?

Thanks.
Jesus is almost always depicted as having long hair. Would Paul have disapproved?

Yes, because He would not have had the hair they paint Him with. A Jew believed that if a man showed his ears he was vain. Most of us have Roman haircuts. A Jew having long hair meant he had a vow he had not yet fulfilled. If He had that long of hair the Jews would have berated Him for not fulfilling His vow. Since He did not stand out in a crowd, it is reasonable to believe His hair covered His ears, but not much longer whereas women's hair would have been long enough to use as a towel to wash feet.

At another (military) church I attended in Germany - I remember how women in the choir - (sitting on the front row) well you could "take their picture" I always wondered why the pastor never said or did anything about that.

Yet, at the (other) church I attended (with Pastor Bob -see post 45) George asked me to help move a "modesty curtain) His wife was the new piano player. He told me if she needed to have that due to a short skirt- she should not be playing the piano! (unlike the previous pianist)

Key phrase - "almost always depicted" He was also depicted as being a Caucasian!
Yes. I helped an elderly Black man once. Before I left he came to attention and said, "Now I know why they painted Jesus White." I explained He was Jewish, not White.
