If God won't communicate with a person, how does that person make contact with God?

Well, if God won’t communicate with a person, that person cannot force it to happen. Not sure what you really mean though.
God communicates through scriptures, circumstances, godly individuals, prophets, dreams, visions, and direct revelation.
“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

When you seek the Lord with all your heart, you will find Him.
1. Persist. Do not give up just because you havent heard back quickly. Sometimes you must pursue Him in fervency and urgency.
2. Why are you pursuing Him? Is it to know Him more, or for a need you have, or just to confirm His existence.

Sometimes people are looking for a god of their own imagination. The way God is because of what they think He should be, never mind Who He has said that He is and declared Himself to be in Scripture.
The best way to avoid that is accept from Scripture who God says He is and recognize His character from what He does.
I am reminded of some times when people I am with refuse to respond when they are called because their name was not called out correctly. Just a few feet away, but glaring down the person who can’t read.
I don’t think God is exactly that way, but if a God who __________, is not the God you want but that is who He is and what He does, it is reasonable to think that He knows you are not looking for Him.

With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure;
and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.

I do believe God communucates through all the ways you listed. But, except for direct revelation, aren't they all head knowledge or second-hand knowledge?

No, they are direct knowledge. It is head knowledge when it only enters the mind, without producing congruent behavior.

Friend, I dont know you but it sounds like you are either:
1. Hungry for a personal experience with God to build your spiritual faith, or
2. Are questioning if He exists and are hoping for proof that He does.
Could you tell us more about what and why you are looking?

I consider only direct revelation and communication to be direct knowledge. As valuable as scripture is, it still is other people's experiences and knowledge.

No. Scripture is not the experience and knowledge of other people. All scripture is God-breathed. It is the direct voice from the heart of the eternal Creator, coming to us through individuals who wrote it, but not originating from them.
God has already provided an infinite amount of evidence that proves He exists — the vast complex universe and the continual fulfillments of prophecy recorded in the Bible. We are now near the end of the prophetic declarations, only a few more things are due to unfold.
From the negative viewpoint, unimaginable wickedness has spread over the world. The Epstein files are a glimpse into how the super rich and powerful are totally aligned with mind-boggling, inhuman, horrendous evil.
We need to decide whose side we are on and not waste time in self-pity, which is a state that I struggle against in my grieving.

I've visited different churches. No church I've ever been to has exemplified what I believe church should be -- an extended family.
