You have said in another thread you believe Israel is the great whore of Rev. 17. I hope after this thread you will reconsider that thought. Lets take a look at Rev. 17 and see who the great whore is, although there are many, many ideas as to who She is and what she stands for, I think you will be interested to hear the identity I give the great whore.
Paul tells us that the Church is the Bride of Christ, and the Scripture tells us there will be a Marriage Supper of the Lamb. But long before Christ came and the Church was born, there was another marriage that took place and is still binding.
Jeremiah 3:14-17
"Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the Lord, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the Lord: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart."
The nation of Israel is married to the Lord God. In this passage as we see in countless others, Israel will be restored, though at this present time they are in a state of separation in the marriage. Paul tells us that all of Israel will be saved in the future, and that marriage will come together again.
Israel is not the whore of Rev. 17, though Israel is playing the whore in their marriage with the Lord God, and have been for a very long time. So who is the great whore in Rev. 17?
Throughout the OT Scripture God has pleaded with Israel in their backslidden state to return to the marriage, but they have refused. God tells them time after time, "you are whoring against Me with other gods." Not a bad reason to believe Israel is the great whore of Rev. 17, right? Let's take a deeper look at that.
Rev. 17 says the great whore sits on many waters. The waters are not literal bodies of water, they are people, nations, and tongues all over the world. Therefore the whore is in the people, nations and tongues of the world. Just as Israel whored with other gods that took them away from the One True God, The great whore is the false religion of the world that takes man away from the true salvation found in our Lord Jesus Christ.
That is the ploy of Satan, detach man from the only thing that save him and replace it with a counterfeit. Let's use the religion of Islam as an example of the great whore. Allah is the counterfeit god, Mohammad is the counterfeit Christ. There is no salvation to be found in this religion. So it is with all of religions of the world that present a counterfeit to replace the redemption found through the Jehovah God of the Bible.
In Rev. 17 the wrath of God has fallen on this earth, and the great whore that opposed God from the beginning with its counterfeits will now be judged. What was in the OT Scripture, "you are whoring with other gods" has now been given a name at judgment time, she is called the Great whore, with blasphemy written on her forehead.
The blasphemy is the Great whore's rebellion against God with its counterfeits, "with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication." 17:2. This is the association of the people, nations and tongues worldwide that have rebelled against God with their counterfeit gods. "They have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication." These people, nations, and tongues, through false religions have replaced the Cross of Christ and taken salvation from mankind, and now this whore will be judged and taken away forever.

Rome had defeated many nations up until 70 AD, so there were many ethnicities included in the Roman Empire.
