2026 Kentucky Oaks - won by #9 Always a Runner.

2026 Kentucky Derby - won by #19 Golden Tempo. Literally went from the back of the field all the way to the front. Reminded me of the great Zenyatta's running style.

"Cherie DeVaux Talks Golden Tempo’s Historic Kentucky Derby Win"

7 minute video.

She said, "He's a deep closer. He doesn't have a lot of speed, but he has a lot of stamina. He can do a 'turn of foot' and make up a lot of ground....and beat them all in the end."

I do believe that there is a sermon in that somewhere.

This is like Secretariat in reverse. Golden Tempo was dead last and yet won. Secretariat, having both speed AND stamina, won by such a massive amount of lengths that it was a shock!

Two exciting races.

Yep. I remember watching the 1973 Belmont Stakes when I was 17 years old.

And here is Zenyatta, perhaps the most famous "deep closer" filly of all time, beating the boys in the 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic.

https://www.sbc.net/resource-library/resolutions/on-the-sin-of-gambling/

"The Southern Baptist Convention has a long history of opposing gambling in its various forms, such as casinos, lotteries, racing, and other gambling schemes; and....we urge our fellow Southern Baptists and all other followers of Christ not to participate in the sin of gambling.'

My advice to people who are opposed to gambling is...don't gamble.

Also, I advise folks to not spend their time worrying that someone, somewhere, might be enjoying doing something that they don't approve of. I suggest that folks stick to their own knitting.

But this thread is not about gambling; I suggest starting a separate thread on that if someone wants to do so.

This thread is about horses.

If this thread were about gambling, I would not have replied.

It's about great horses. Not betting, not gambling, not sin.

God speaks highly of great horses in Job 39.

Yep. One can watch horse races without gambling on horse races. There is gambling on all kinds of sports nowadays, and even gambling on economic and world events. So even watching or reading or listening to the news might involve something that someone is gambling on some online platform about.
