And I'm 74, so forget that about being "too old" for a doctorate.

Commencement was this last week where I "walked" for my Master of Theological Studies and yes, I was inspired by the fact that I was not nearly as old as I had thought! Many of the PhD candidates had at least ten years on me! Add to this the fact that my wife says she is now "100% supportive" of me if I do so but right now, I have a book to write and a business to transfer over to my kids. I am looking for teaching opportunities in the Philippines and wherever else the Lord may have me to go. I exchanged information with a pastor in Rwanda who says there is a great need for theology teachers right now because the government has shut down many churches due to pastors not being properly trained and qualified in theology. If God provides, I will definitely spend some time there. Looks like I may be getting quite busy really soon! Perhaps I should've been a little more careful for what I wished for?

I do not have any real "Professional" ministry experience at this time so if I was to go for my Doctorate, it would have to be either a ThD or PhD.

I went to a fundamentalist seminary and completed roughly 60 hrs of an MDIV- i need preaching Greek II and History and another 2!or so classes

I am old enough that ai am done and am good w it

My dream was Japan (theological education and church planting/evangelism) but God had other plans

Currently too involved in working and Ministry (mostly Africa, some India) to worry about finishing anything but life -and that well

I am honored to have been a part of Gods economy (my Hebrew/OT prof) who actually spent many years in Japan

There is nothing like teaching and helping men who just a year or so ago had almost no hope for either Bibles, books nor any semblance of theological education, and that while not perfect is better than what they ever imagined.

Its a crazy tide guys/gals

If you want to finish your degree, you really ought to check out Louisiana Baptist University! The cost is reasonable and you could do everything online from where you may happen to be. They are really easy to work with. Tell Dr. Jay (the Seminary Dean) I sent you!

There is not enough time in my schedule

I get up at 3am for work and get home around 4:30pm or so

Plus the missions thing takes several hours per day/week

The DMin is usually designed so that you have to take the classes while you minister. I just took a course on Preaching Prophetic Literature. The after class project is 12 sermons (mine are assigned from Daniel 7-12), and we had to say how we would be using the project in ministry. So once you get into ministry in the Philippines you can take classes as you minister, and they would be helpful for you.

I didn't know that about what is happening with churches in the Philippines. That's very sad.

Not in the Philippines but in Rwanda. A pastor and spokesman for his region has asked if I would consider teaching theology there. It is here that the government is shutting down churches because their pastors have been deemed as unqualified not having adequate theological training. In some cases, I can appreciate the government trying to protect its people and as you are probably aware, there are a good number of false teachers over there (Cults, Word of Faith, Etc.) that are running rampant all over Africa. I believe this is where many of us can step in and fill a role to see that the national pastors are better equipped to deal with such matters and they would also be much better equipped to feed their flocks!

My thoughts at this time is that if God opens the doors, I will go over there on short-term trips and teach a few "Block Courses" or seminars that would fill some of these requirements. Many things I am still trying to figure out such as sponsorship and support. I still plan on working primarily in the Philippines but if God has some sort of "teaching ministry" in mind for me that is more international in scope, I am game.

I am sure any doctoral work will fall into place as the Lord leads.

Thanks for straightening me out. I've been to Africa, and know that what you say is true about the cults and heresies there.

You are doing a very needful and important ministry. I've taught in Japan and Cameroon (just a short time there). Go for it!
