Mars opinion.

No manned Mars missions. Not sure a human being could survive 3 or 4 years in space.
Until we can travel much faster.

The bodies the Lord made for us are designed for optimum survival here on Earth,
and not for traveling through space to other planets.
It's not just getting to Mars, it's getting to Mars alive. Solar and cosmic radiation
can be shielded to a degree, but then again Mars lacks a magnetic field, therefore
a human body will be constantly bombarded with that same solar and cosmic radiation
on the Mars surface.
It's a long, long trip there and back, so that's a whole lot of groceries they'd have to
pack, plus enough water to survive on. Water can be cleaned and recycled, but lunch
can not.
As Canadyjd mentioned, our space ships are slow..at best it's a six month trip to get there,
and at least the same on return plus the time for sightseeing while there. One mistake and
everyone dies. Can't say I'm a fan of those odds.
Continue to send robots. The rovers we've sent in the past have done a fine job of surviving, and they
can send back all the data we need.

I can give a few outstanding recommendations.
It would take over 200 days to get to Mars!

Yes. I find the BB is a great place to find the best people for such missions.
If it could be done, it would be a manned obit and return before any landing were attempted.

Before we even think of sending any human to Mars, I believe they need to actually send a space ship to Mars and then bring it safely back to Earth. Are we even close to achieving this?
And this is speaking only of getting a spacecraft into Mars orbit!
We have landed spacecraft onto Mars but have yet to see one blast off from Mars and return to Earth. When do they plan to start working on this?
I do not believe there will be any manned missions to Mars in my lifetime and likely will never happen in this age. I could be wrong.

I would agree. Sending a manned mission to Mars and bringing them back again
are two different things.
We get great pictures and data from the robotic missions we have landed there, but
to send a manned mission without allowing them to land on Mars would not be something
most astronauts would have interest in undertaking.

1. Generality - Hey! Were going to Mars!
2. Specifics - Trillions of specifics of why that is not a good idea
Will they even enter Mar's orbit before something bad and unaccounted for happens? What happens if someone passes away on the way there? At that velocity and speed that will be a tough proposition!
