1) Without looking in your Bibles
I thought, by reading it too quickly, that you said "look in your Bibles".

Nobody's posting so I would have said "fowlers", but the King James says, "as he that setteth snares".

I have a feeling that I don't win. :Thumbsdown

Not being familiar with the verse, I'd have had to take my best guess, and that would
have been: B. he that sets snares.

I chose that as the verse continued with "they set a trap", and a snare is a trap.

Also, being a Baptist I am unable to provide a simple two-letter reply. My apologies...laughing7.gif

We need more of these kinds of questions....but if from the OT I'll have to look it up
more often than not.

I currently study from the ESV and was surprised by the word, "fowler."
I'm familiar with the meaning but thought it was an archaic word.
It's an old word; the Oxford English Dictionary notes its first use in the 1100's,
But it's not considered archaic ...just rather rare.

The KJV uses fowler 4 times, Psalm 91:3; Psalm 124:7; Proverbs 6:5 and Hosea 9:8.
But not here in Jeremiah 5, the only other place where the Hebrew word (יָקוֹשׁ - yaqush) is used.

Jeremiah 5:26 (AV 1873)
For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

I think I like the KJV's rendering of the passage better!

A. fowlers (ESV, NASB, NRSV, ASV, Wycliffe,

B. he that sets snares (KJV, NKJV, Geneva

C. men who snare birds (NIV

D. hunters lying in wait (CSB, NRSVue

Nobody can win when answering the second question!
It popped up on my computer recently and I was amused.
