Luke 1:35, And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born [of you] will be called the Son of God.

. . . of you . . . . Is missing.

. . . of you . . . . Is missing.

Neither does the American Standard Version(ASV).

Apparently, from searching about this, it depends upon which early manuscript is used as to whether it includes "ἐκ σοῦ".

At Luke 1:35, the 1534 Tyndale's New Testament has "And the angel answered and said unto her: The holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee. Therefore also that holy thing which shall be born, shall be called the Son of God."

. . . ἐκ σοῦ . . . in Luke 1:35. Codex Ephraemi Rescriptus, also known as Codex C, is an important 5th-century Greek manuscript of the Bible.

In what way do you suppose we could potentially miss out on important doctrine by having "of you" omitted? The context of Luke 1, along with many other references, clearly establishes that Mary is the mother of Christ.
The actual issue is the KJV has "of thee" as it's text.

The issue of said text being the reading of Luke 1:35 God breathed original autograph is an all important question. But not the topic.

The whole context is the angel Gabriel telling Mary that she will bear a Son. Mary asks how such a thing could be, since she does not know (in the sense of having intimate relations with) a man. Whether or not the words "of thee" are included in Gabriel's reply in verse 35, the context shows that he is talking of the Baby Mary will bear. It wouldn't make any sense at all for Mary to ask, "How can I have a baby?", then for Gabriel to answer about somebody else having a baby.

The extra words are missing from most editions of theTextus Receptus . It's missing in Stephanus and Elzever editions. I believe it is in Beza's who might of gotten it from the Latin. It's in the Anglo Saxon and Wycliffe Versions.

Missing from the Majority Text as well.

English Majority Text Version 2009

And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy Baby which is to be born shall be called the Son of God

Ding, Ding, Ding! We Have a Winner!!

And Mary Giving Birth to Jesus happens to be a direct Fulfillment of the Prophecy in Isaiah 7:14;
"Therefore the Lord Himself Will Give you a Sign: Behold, the virgin Will be with Child and Will Give Birth to a Son, and Will Call Him Immanuel" and is linked to many other Scriptures throughout the Bible, as well.

How does Luke 1:35 connect to Old Testament Prophecies about the Messiah?

"Setting the Scene";
"Gabriel has just told Mary she will bear the long-awaited Deliverer.
Luke 1:35 records the crucial line:
“The Angel replied, ‘The Holy Spirit Will Come upon you, and the Power of the Most High Will Overshadow you. "Therefore the Holy One to be Born of thee Will be Called the Son of God.’”
"Every phrase reaches back into the Scriptures Mary knew.

“The Holy Spirit Will Come upon you”
• Genesis 1:2 – “The Spirit of God was Hovering over the surface of the waters.” The same Creative Spirit Who Formed the Original Creation now Fashions the Humanity of the Messiah.
• Isaiah 11:2 – “The Spirit of the LORD Will Rest on Him…” Gabriel identifies Jesus as that Spirit-Anointed Shoot from Jesse’s stump.

“The power of the Most High Will Overshadow you”
• "Exodus 40:34-35 – The Cloud of Glory “Covered (LXX: ἐπεσκίαζεν) the Tent,” signaling God’s Dwelling among His people.
"Luke uses the same Greek verb for the Cloud over the Tabernacle and the Spirit’s Overshadowing of Mary. God is once again Pitching His Tent—this time in flesh.
• "Psalm 91:1 – The one who Dwells “in the Shelter of the Most High” abides “in the Shadow of the Almighty.” Mary now becomes the Living Sanctuary where that Shadow Falls.

“Therefore the Holy One to be born…”
• "Psalm 16:10 – “You will not let Your Holy One see decay.” The title “Holy One” belongs to the Promised Messiah, hinting at His Sinlessness and Ultimate Victory over Death.
• "Isaiah 4:3; 49:7 – Israel’s Redeemer is repeatedly called “the Holy One,” and Gabriel applies the same designation to the Child.

“…will be called the Son of God.”
• "2 Samuel 7:12-14 – God Promises David, “I will be His Father, and He Will be My Son.”
Luke emphasizes that the King in David’s line is literally God’s Son by Divine Conception.
• "Psalm 2:7 – “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.” Gabriel’s wording mirrors this Coronation Psalm.
• "Isaiah 9:6 – “Unto us a Child is Born… and His Name Will be called… Mighty God.”
The Messiah is both Child and Deity, exactly what Gabriel announces.

"The Virgin Sign Foretold";
• "Isaiah 7:14 – “Behold, the virgin will Conceive and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.”
Luke 1:35 explains how a true virgin Conception is possible: the Spirit’s Miraculous Overshadowing.
“Immanuel” means “God with us,” fulfilled when God takes on flesh inside Mary.

"Seed of the Woman Promise";
• "Genesis 3:15 – The first Prophecy calls the Deliverer “her Seed,” an unusual phrase emphasizing a woman’s offspring without mention of a man.
"Luke shows that the Ultimate Seed Comes solely through a woman, Conceived by God Himself.

"Davidic Line and Eternal Kingship";
• "Jeremiah 23:5-6 – “I Will Raise Up for David a Righteous Branch, a King Who Will Reign Wisely… and this is His Name… ‘The LORD Our Righteousness.’”
• "Micah 5:2 – From Bethlehem Will Come One “Whose Origins are from of Old, from the Days of Eternity.”
"Luke 1:35’s declaration of Divine Sonship matches Micah’s portrait of an Eternal Ruler Entering Time.

"Messiah’s Dual Nature Foreshadowed";
"Old Testament texts present the Coming One as both Divine and human.
"Luke 1:35 shows how both Natures Unite:
• "Human – born of Mary, Heir to David.
• "Divine – Conceived by the Spirit, called Son of God.

"Bringing the Threads Together";
"Luke 1:35 is not an isolated New Testament novelty but the Spirit’s Spotlight on Promises stretching back to Eden:
• "Virgin Conception (Isaiah 7:14)
• "Seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15)
• "Spirit-Anointed Ruler (Isaiah 11:2)
• "Holy One Who will not see decay (Psalm 16:10)
• "Son in David’s line yet Son of God (2 Samuel 7:14; Psalm 2:7)
• "God Himself Dwelling with His people (Exodus 40; Isaiah 9:6)

"Gabriel’s words weave every Prophecy into a single fabric: the Messiah is Miraculously Conceived,
Utterly Holy, Truly God, and Truly man—the Long-Promised Savior finally Stepping into History."

The ASV Luke 1:35 has translation note: Some ancient authorities insert of thee.

I just see where these versions have "of thee", "of you", "[born of you]", "your child", etc. , besides the King James Bible.

Berean Annotated Bible
"The angel (messenger) replied, “The Holy Spirit {Hagion Pneuma} will come upon you, and the power {dynamis} of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born [born of you] will be called the Son of God {Theou}.

Contemporary English Version
The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come down to you, and God's power will come over you. So your child will be called the holy Son of God.

GOD'S WORD® Translation
The angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come to you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy child developing inside you will be called the Son of God.

Webster's Bible Translation
And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Highest will overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Weymouth New Testament
The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for this reason your holy offspring will be called 'the Son of God.'

World English Bible
The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the holy one who is born from you will be called the Son of God.

Smith's Literal Translation
And the messenger having answered, said to her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: wherefore also the holy thing born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Douay-Rheims Bible
Lamsa Bible
Catholic Public Domain Version

Aramaic Bible in Plain English
The Angel answered and said to her, “The Spirit of Holiness shall come and the power of The Highest shall rest upon you, therefore he who shall be begotten in you shall be holy and he shall be called the Son of God.”

Haweis New Testament
Mace New Testament
Worsley New Testament
World English Bible
A Faithful Version

Geneva Bible of 1587
And the Angel answered, & said vnto her, The holy Ghost shall come vpon thee, and the power of the most High shall ouershadowe thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall bee borne of thee, shall be called the Sonne of God.

Coverdale Bible of 1535
The angell answered, & sayde vnto her: The holy goost shal come vpon the, & the power of the Hyest shal ouershadowe the. Therfore that Holy also which shalbe borne (of the) shalbe called the sonne of God.

It is stunning and surprising all the Versions that just leave that portion of the Scripture out. Name them.

This rant doesn't address NKJV Luke 1:35 "of you" omission.
This passage is pregnant with meaning.

"The Whole Gospel is a Mystery; the various Doctrines of the Gospel are the Mysteries of the Kingdom; the knowledge of which is given to some, and not to others; it is the Mystery of Godliness, and, without Controversy, Great; and this stands the First and Principal article of the Gospel; "God Manifest in the Flesh", #1Ti 3:16.

"God Manifest in the flesh", #1Ti 3:16, is the basis of the Christian Religion; a Fundamental Article of the Christian Religion; and without the belief of God being Manifest in the flesh", no man can be a Christian; "Every Spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is Come in the Flesh, is of God"; born of God, and belongs to Him, and is on the side of God and Truth; "And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is Come in the Flesh, is not of God", #1Jo 4:2,3.

"The Incarnation of Christ is a most extraordinary and amazing affair; it is wonderful indeed, that the Eternal Son of God should become man; Luke 1 Gill's Exposition

To Effect the most Wonderful Work that ever was Done in the World, the Redemption and Salvation of men, Mary had to be a Natural woman in the flesh and Bring Forth a Son, IN THE FLESH:

30; "And the Angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found Favor with God.

31; "And, behold, thou shalt Conceive in thy womb,
and
(you shall) Bring Forth a Son, and shalt call His Name JESUS..."

34; "...Then said Mary unto the Angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

35; "And the Angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall Come Upon thee,
and the Power of the Highest shall Overshadow thee:

"therefore also that Holy Thing which shall be Born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

"The Human Nature of Christ is here called a "thing"; That "Thing which shall be Born of thee", as the Bible says again, had to be actually Born "of her", and states that He was Born of her, as a Natural woman giving Natural Childbirth "and is, moreover, said to be Born of a Virgin, "of thee", or "out of thee".
Christ's flesh was Formed out of the Virgin's; Jesus took Flesh of her;"

This Version, for example leaves room for the assumption of other possibilities:

English Revised Version
... wherefore also that which is to be born (?) shall be called holy, the Son of God.

Negatively, the problems that could arise from just stating "that which is to be born", etc., could be said to mean that it was just some 'being' or 'entity' in the Spirit Realm, similar to all those Westcott and Hort Founded Secret Societies about, for the purpose of 'investigating' anything in the Paranormal Realm of the supernatural, (with the the exception and exclusion, of course, of God the Father, God the Son, or God the Holy Spirit, or the Holy Bible.)

In other words:

"His Body did not Descend from Heaven,
or pass through Mary, as water through a pipe, as some Heretics of old said:"

It requisite that the Child have been Born "of you", i.e., as a production of her flesh and blood and not just
in any way said to be a Poltergeist or other entity from:

"Mythology, Folklore, and Fiction, such as:
  • Shapeshifters and Disguises: Non-human entities—such as gods, Aliens, Vampires, or Faeries—that take on a human guise to blend in with society. [1, 2]
  • Mythical Humanoids: Creatures like Elves, Dwarfs, Orcs, and Golems that share a baseline human silhouette but possess distinct physical or supernatural differences.
God knows how to Obfuscate the enemies of the Cause of Christ, or defend in advance against those types of liberties that the Heretics would try to exploit.

"The Heathens had some faint notions of the birth of a deity; at least say some things similar to it. The Brachmanes among the Indians, asserted, that Wistnavius, the second person of the triune god with them, had nine times assumed a body, and sometimes an human one; and would once more do the same again; and that he was once born of a virgin {1}. Confucius, the famous Chinese philosopher, who lived almost five hundred years before Christ, it is said {2}, foresaw that the Word would be made flesh; and foretold the year in which it would be; and which was the very year in which Christ was born: but this seems to savor too much of the tale of a Christian in later times.

"However, several of the deities and heroes of the heathens, Greeks and Romans, are represented as having no father {3}. His By Grace--"John Gill: A Body of Doctrinal & Practical Divinity"-Doctrinal Book 5, Chapter 1

"The Word, or Son of God, was "Made Flesh", became a Partaker "of Flesh and Blood, came in the Flesh", and was "Manifest in the Flesh": all which phrases are made use of to express His Incarnation, #Joh 1:14 Heb 2:14 1Jo 4:2,3 #1Ti 3:16 and signify, that He Who is Truly God really became man, or assumed the Whole Human Nature", BY BEING BORN "of you", i.e., Mary, and He Took Up a True Body, not a mere Phantom, Spectre, or Apparition, the Appearance of a body, and not a real one; as some fancied, and that very early, even in the times of the Apostle John, and afterward; and who imagined, that what Christ Was, and Did, and Suffered, were only seeming, and in appearance, and not in Reality;

"and hence they were called "Docetae":
and this they argued from His being Sent in the "Likeness" of sinful flesh;
and being Found in Fashion as a man;
and from the Appearances of Christ before His Coming;
of which same kind they supposed His Appearance was when He Came.

"As for the text in #Ro 8:3 "Likeness" there, is not to be connected with the word "flesh", but with the word "sinful";

"JESUS was Sent in Real Flesh, but that Flesh looked as if it was sinful:
it might seem so to some, because He Took Flesh of a sinful woman,
was Attended with Griefs and Sorrows, the effects of sin;
had the sins of His people Imputed to Him, and which He Bore in His Own Body on the tree;
all which made His Flesh appear as if it was sinful, though it was not; and hindered not its being Real Flesh." His By Grace--"John Gill: A Body of Doctrinal & Practical Divinity"-Doctrinal Book 5, Chapter 1
