Father Daughter Purity Balls

I guess the Purity Balls are now called Father Daughter Dances by the local churches sponsoring them.

Are you approving of fathers dating their daughters, who are dressed in wedding gown type dresses, and receive a wedding/purity ring from him?

Is it appropriate for a father to be the quasi-romantic interest of his daughter, and “guardian of her virginity”, until her actual bridegroom arrives?

Wikipedia: A purity ball is a formal, conservative Christian-tradition event—founded in 1998 in Colorado Springs by Randy and Lisa Wilson—where fathers and their young daughters (ranging from pre-teens to college-aged) dress in formal ball attire for dinner, dancing, and a ceremony centered on a chastity pledge. Daughters typically sign a formal pledge or contract promising to remain sexually abstinent until marriage, often symbolizing it by placing a white rose at a cross or receiving a purity ring, bracelet, or necklace. Fathers simultaneously pledge to guide, protect, and cover their daughters' moral lives. Events mimic a formal wedding or prom reception—complete with dinner, wedding cake, a father-daughter waltz, and symbolic gift presentations (such as keys or hearts).

Daughters sign or recite a formal vow to remain virgins until marriage, while fathers often sign a covenant promising to act as the primary spiritual protector of her virginity, and serve as a surrogate boyfriend and guardian of their daughters' purity.

Many outside observers and psychologists describe the eroticized, wedding-like aesthetics—where young girls wear white dresses and dance closely with their fathers while vowing sexual purity—as unseemly, incestuous, cult-like, or crossing appropriate parent-child boundaries.

80% to 90% of youth who take purity pledges eventually break them. Furthermore, pledgers frequently report lower rates of contraceptive and condom use when they do become sexually active, leading to STI and pregnancy rates on par with (or higher than) non-pledgers.

NOTE: A mother-son purity event—often called a "Knight to Remember" dance—is a formal, faith-based counterpart to the traditional father-daughter purity ball.

Similar to father-daughter equivalents, these events typically include formal attire, a sit-down dinner, guest speakers, mother-son dances, and sometimes the exchange of a token or purity ring as a physical reminder of their commitment. Sons are often framed or addressed as "knights," emphasizing a code of honor, respect, and protecting their own and others' virtue.

While much rarer and less publicized than father-daughter purity balls, they operate on the same core evangelical theology regarding premarital abstinence.

“They are freaking disgusting. That's a 100% hard no for me. All these dumb things are rooted in puritanical religious beliefs that a dad owns his daughter and her sexuality, and decides when to give it to another man. I'm not keen on giving my daughter away on her wedding because of those same connotations, but doubt I'd put up a fight about that one, because it's so incredibly ingrained in that ceremony.”

Three daughters, all grown with kids of their own now.

Three Father / daughter dances at the local public school.
I think the event was for third grade girls.
I never crossed my mind that it was a purity event.

There are so many opportunities for Mom's to do things with their sons and daughters - not so many opportunities for dads and daughters.
As much as I disliked it, I did it anyway... they looked forward to it.... getting all dressed up fancy.
