I saw a post stating that Mike Pence may run - but then I found several where he has no plans.

Keep in mind - for a successful run - candidates need to start in early '27 as it takes plenty of money!
First primaries are in Jan '28

There are a lot of names being thrown around, but I think things will get narrowed down pretty quickly once the primary season starts.

The DNC has been known to give the nomination to the “safe” candidate, so I expect that they are likely to pass over all of the DSAs and give the nod to a moderate, like Andy Beshear, or possibly even a progressive, like Gavin Newsom.

On the Republican side, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that the nomination will go to whoever President Trump ultimately chooses to endorse—probably Vance or Rubio.

Based on recent history, just ask yourself “who are the two ’Least Capable’ candidates in America?” and those will be our choices in the November 2028 election.

I think Ron DeSantis is a real contender. He has elevated Florida Republican politics to a level of political corruption that one used to have to go to Chicago to find. After voting Republican every election since 1980, his endorsement of a candidate required me to cast a vote for the Democrat rival in this 2026 mid-term election. My party needs a wake-up call that TOO MUCH is TOO MUCH and they need to clean up their house.

There's no way I would vote for Vance or Rubio.

I wouldn't vote for them either. I'd do what I did in 2024 and write in Jesus' name.
First - I find that very inproper!

Second - when you vote for President - you are actually voting for electors -- Not the individual
thus just writing in one name is legally a wasted vote.

If you are going to do a write - in at least put in a real person -
For example -- (as Reynolds stated) he would like Rand Paul.

I'd like to see DeSantis run.

I would have preferred DeSantis to have received the nomination back in 2024. He is much younger and could have served two consecutive terms instead of one. He did campaign in the primaries, but unfortunately the Republican voters decided they still wanted Trump to be their guy. I guess he can try again in 2028, but I think that Trump is paving the way for Vance or Rubio to be his successor.

Improper how? Perhaps it plants a seed in the person who reviews my ballot. One can never go wrong choosing Jesus.

When one votes for president, they are selecting the person they want to be president. In 48 states, the winner takes all the electoral votes in that state. Sure, there have been times some electors didn't, but they were very few and it doesn't happen that often. So my writing in a name instead of selecting a candidate on the ballot has no effect on the election. When a person cast a write-in vote, it's not a wasted vote because people in this country do have the right to vote for whoever the want whether it's a candidate on the ballot or a write-in. Therefor a write-in vote is not wasted even if the write-in is Jesus.

I hope DeSantis does run. I refuse to vote for Vance or Rubio because they're part of the problem we are in now.
