Did Bush take Christ out of Christmas?

I looked back a bit before posting this...hope It's not re-post.
I tend to stay out of political subjects but was wondering if anyone had any input to a piece I saw on the local news the other day.
It had a repoter doing a story on the christmas cards being sent out by the whitehouse.
Instead of Merry Christmas & Happy New Year It stated Happy Holidays.
Has Bush caved in to pressure so as not to "offend" anyone?

Just because someone says or sends Christmas cards with Happy Holidays on it does not mean they are against Christ or Merry Christmas.

Mabey, & mabey all the times he's been shown on TV Any refernce he made to Christ was cut out. Can't help but wonder though, He's made plenty of references to God, prayer, & the church (or churches) but I've never heard one mention of Christ. I do understand I could have missed it somewhere but I still wonder.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the cards say Merry Christmas before? Just wondering why the change (if there was one).

Oh, & if it doesn't say Christmas on it somewhere....then how can it be a Christmas card??
A card for the Holidays, of which Christmas happens to be one yes, but not a Christmas card.

There's another thread on this somewhere, but I'll post this again here. Here is what the Whitehouse Christmas card said:

"The Lord is my strength and my shield: in Him my heart trusts;
so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him."

Psalm 28:7 (RSV)

With best wishes for a holiday season of hope and happiness.

2005

Signed: George Bush Laura Bush

If you look inside, you'll see that card contains a verse from the Bible. There has never been a bible verse in a White House Christmas card until GW Bush.

BTW, the White House Christmas cards are paid for by private funds, not taxpayers.

If Bush were "caving in", why would he be putting bible verses in the cards?

For those of you who are history trivia nuts, Dwight Eisenhower became the first American president to send out an official White House card in 1953. He sent 1100, while now there are over a million sent.

This is proof positive that Joseph Farah (editor of WND) is a revisionist nutcase.

This year's Christmas card is reportedly the second presidential Christmas card in history to include a Bible verse.

Maybe Bush recognises that his constituency is more than just Christians. Including others is not excluding us.

I think Falwell, O'Reilly et al are making a big stink just to flex their muscles.

</font>[/QUOTE]Actually, you are wrong, Johnv. Eisenhower wasn't the first.

Diversity has been a hallmark of White House greeting cards for some time, according to Mary Evans Seeley of Tampa, Fla., author of "Season's Greetings From the White House." The last presidential Christmas card that mentioned Christmas was in 1992. It was sent by George H.W. and Barbara Bush.

Seeley said the first president to send out true Christmas cards, as opposed to signed photographs or handwritten letters, was Franklin D. Roosevelt. "Merry Christmas from the President and Mrs. Roosevelt," said his first annual card, in 1933.

And surely it is beneath you to speak ill of your brother in Christ, Joseph Farah. It isn't very Christ-like for you to call him a "revisionist nutcase."

I didn't know this had been asked before sorry it's a repeat.
When they spoke of & showed the card you couldn't see there was a verse in it. They only read the part about Happy holidays & the signitures.
Guess thats another good reaon not to trust a lot of what you see/hear on the news.
Thanks for the input. Though for some reason I've been uneasy about our President for awhile,
I'm uneasy about anyone that proclaims God, but you never hear them use the name of Christ. But like I said before mabey that part is cut out.

Daisy, that is offset by anti-Christs like The Rev. Mr. Barry Lynn and other religious left Democrats who don't believe a word of 2000-years-old-Christian-doctrine.

How do you figure anything is offset (can a smell be offest?) and what makes you think Lynn doesn't believe a word of the Bible?

It was my understanding that Eisenhower was the first, havin sent 1100 cards. If it was indeed Franklin D. Roosevelt, I'm curious how many cards he sent. I happen to enjoy meaningless trivia like that.

Perhaps the phrase "nutcase" was overkill, not to mention an insult to nutcases. But revisionist fits accurately. I don't take kindly to disengenuous people, and he qualifies.

I think y'all should study the real pagan history of christMAS(mas death).
Bush Can't take Christ out of a holiday He was never in.
Christians say "...it's a good time to get the unsaved into church"
Sure, and this is a good way... http://www.geocities.com/paulsfocus2
Sickening isn't it?

The Bible say's Jer 10:2 -
Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. K.J.B.

Merry Festive Pagan Holiday ;)

I decide what Christmas means to me. Christmas, in my house, is a celebration of the Lord's birth. Nothing changes that. Nothing.

I suppose that means God's Holy Word or the truth won't change your mind?

If you want to celebrate a pagan holiday it's no skin off my back. But don't call it a Christian holiday, when that holiday's origin is satanic.

Merry Festive Pagan Holiday ;)

I'm very happy about Christmas and excited about Christmas. I'm excited that we are celebrating the Birth of Jesus Christ, even though it is not the correct day, the whole civilized world knows that December 25th is the day Christians celebrate and commemorate the Birth of Jesus Christ. God is the Author of commemorating special times - He gave a rainbow. He instituted the Passover. He instituted the Feasts of Israel. God is the One who initiated remembrances and commemorations because He knows we humans tend to forget His goodness and the Great and Wonderful Things He has Done & Continues to Do. So, for Christians, Christmas is a time set aside, to commemorate the Birth of His Son. And I believe God is pleased with that.

I'm also very happy that Christians took the Christmas Tree back from the pagans who stole God's creation and used it to worship false gods. God created the evergreen tree and a Christmas tree is a celebration of God's creation and green reminds us of His Gift of Everlasting Life.

I'm also happy that we Christians give gifts to celebrate God's greatest Gift of all - His Only Begotten Son. And I'm happy to include the poor and unfortunate, the hungry, and down and out on my Christmas gift list as well as the rest of the year.

I'm happy for the aromas - the scent of spices of Christmas cookies and treats. The spices can only remind the Christian of the spices brought by the magi to the newborn babe in the manger.

I'm happy for a time of being with friends and family, for a special time to correspond with Christmas Cards to loved ones far and near.

I'm happy for the Christmas music - the carols that tell the World to Rejoice, there is Joy to the World because the Lord has come! I'm happy for the Christmas services, the candlelight services, the time of fellowship, worship, and praise to the Lord God Almighty - a special time, when even, through the years, even enemies on battlefields on opposing sides, the sweet familiar refrain of Silent Night brought a temporary kinship between strangers who knew they had to fight once again soon and it may be their last Christmas on Earth. It was a time to reflect and ponder, just as Mary did so long ago.

Christmas is a special time. If the day, December 25th, originated as a pagan holiday, so be it. Christians have reclaimed it for the Glory of God! Hallelujah!

Merry Christmas, Everyone.

How have the...
Christians reclaimed it..."
...when it wasn't their's to begin with.

Like I asked in my earlier post "I suppose that means God's Holy Word or the truth won't change your mind?"

It is a sad day in america when Gods people won't stand up for what is right, because of how something makes them feel.

go ahead worship your reincarnated yule log. I'm sure God doesn't mind a little competition once a year. :( You know, a bit of romans 1 worshipping the creature more than the creator.

My Family used to celebrate "Christ's birth" on the 25th. But did we realy? NO, we celebrated a pagan holiday for us (I want presents, I want a Christmas tree,I,I,I...very selfish unholy day)not Christ.
How about a little scripture
Ec 7:1 -
A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth. K.J.B.(emphasis mine)

Sorry I had to bring the BIBLE into this.

Merry Festive Pagan Holiday ;)

My birthday is Feb. 3. I would think it weird if everyone that I knew wanted to celabrate my birthday in June. It would be one thing if we were clueless about when Jesus was born and needed a date to celabrate on. However: 1. we know from the Bible that Christ was born around the middle of september and 2. nowhere from Genesis to Revalation does God's word tell us to celabrate or even recognize his birthday.

Just because the world knows that Christians do something, doesn't make that something right. The world also knows that Christians lie, cheat, steal, gossip etc. get the point?

Also, the world is taking Christ back out of Christmas. Notice the lawsuits and stores refusing to use the word Christmas. This is nothing new for the world as they try to take Christ out of everything, but you'll notice they are not trying to abolish the holiday. Hmmmmm... take away the name... keep the holiday... Christ is offensive... the holiday is not Hmmm... I got it! Christ isn't in the holiday, He's only in the Name.

First, all of these things were never given to Christians, they were given to the Jews.

Second, they were a foreshadow of things to come not a rememberance of things past. 1Cor. 1:22 & Gal. 3:24&25

Third, to say that "for Christians, Christmas is a time set aside, to commemorate the Birth of His Son." is to say that for Christians, Halloween is a time for children to go collect tithe money from the neighbors. The holiday we know as Christmas is not changed by changing our veiw of it.
By this statement you are saying that truth can be changed by willing it away. very dangerous. John 4:24 (this verse can be aplied to the whole issue)

Fourth, How you can say "God is pleased" with ignorance of the truth is beyond me. 2Cor. 2:11

I'm also very happy that Christians took the Christmas Tree back from the pagans who stole God's creation and used it to worship false gods. God created the evergreen tree and a Christmas tree is a celebration of God's creation and green reminds us of His Gift of Everlasting Life.
The Christians took back the Christmas tree? The tree was never a Christian symbol to begin with. I've got an idea! I think it's time for Christians to "take back" marijuana! It's one of God's creations, right? And it's green! come on everyone, lets all get high and call it hash wednesday. After all it's all about the feeling anyway, it's not like we really care what the truth is.

A christmas tree is not "a celebration of God's creation" or any of that hogwash. It is, was, and always will be a pagan Idol symbolizing the resurection of a Satanic god. Jer. 10:2-4

It was a time to reflect and ponder, just as Mary did so long ago.

This is all good(with the exception of Christmas cards and unscriptural songs), but why base it all on a lie? Doesn't the truth have any weight anymore?
Christmas is a special time. If the day, December 25th, originated as a pagan holiday, so be it. Christians have reclaimed it for the Glory of God! Hallelujah!

Merry Christmas, Everyone.
"originate:
verb
to come from or begin in a particular place or situation" (emphasis mine)

reclaim:
verb
to take back (something that was yours)

If this statement is suposed to make sense, Lord have mercy, someone's been spiking the eggnog.

The Christians didn't reclaim anything. The Catholics put some "Chrisian" sounding names on some pagan stuff and all the suckers who think that Catholics are Christians bought it.

Okay, we're:

1.celabrating an event we were never told to celabrate
2.celabrating it on a day that we know for a fact is wrong
3.celabrating on an established pagan day
4.celabrating exactly as the pagans that created the helliday did
5.and calling it Christian

Makes perfect sense to me.

I would love to go through life with an attitude of not knowing or caring what's really going on. But that's not what the Lord wants.

Merry Festive Pagan Holiday.
(yes we're brothers)
