I believe the shoehorning is done by you. You have dozens of clear statements from our Lord and His inspired disciples that "all these things" Matt 24 would be fulfilled in that generation. It is that preponderance of evidence that guides me in my interpretation of the passages above.

I believe if a new Christian, reading a Bible for the first time, if he were not taught by modern culture to automatically disregard it, would come to the same conclusion.

The many verses ought to guide our understanding of the few that seem - only seem - to teach otherwise.

I don't disagree that many popes have been antichrist, but NONE has been the PENULTIMATE antichrist. (Satan is the ultimate AC.) He will be one man, not a whole line of them.

Now, the "beast from the earth" in Rev. 13 might well be a pope or other high RC official, but remember, the beast himself won't recognize ANY other god or religion.

Again, your big prob is that "all these things " have NOT yet been fulfilled! NO GETTING AROUND THAT FACT ! !

Now, we KNOW every word Jesus spoke & had recorded for us is true. Therefore, you must look at what He actually MEANT. Remember,"genea" can mean several things in English, including 'a people'. Again, the FACT those things have NOT yet all happened, shows Jesus meant something else besides the body of all the people alive when He said those words. Trying to invent stuff to match Jesus' prophecies, or reducing "inconvenient" verses to "symbolic" status is, I believe, what Martin meant by "shoehorning".

Again, the proof is simple - Just show us from history when those events occurred, and who performed them!

Who was the 'beast'? The false prophet ?

What did the marka the beast look like, and what was the name of the person(s) issuing it?

When was all green grass burnt up?

When did all life in the sea die?

Simply SHOW US FROM HISTORY when those events occurred, and who performed them, & I'll believe preterism!

I am not a futurist any more than I am a preterist and therefore have no problem whatsoever with "all these things."
Indeed they should, as also should common sense. Wars, rumours of wars, earthquakes, famines, epidemics, persecutions, false prophets etc. (Matthew 24:7-11) have continued ever since AD 70, just as they did before, 'but the end is not yet.'
