You accuse me of "nonsense". I plead "guilty as charged":
1 Corinthians 1:18-25 [ESV]
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart."
Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
2 Corinthians 4:3-6 [ESV]
And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
PS: Since we argue so hard, I wanted to take a moment to say "Thank You" and God bless you. Indifference is the enemy, we are brothers engaged in a friendly family squabble over "non-essential things" (our opinions will not change God's mind).![]()
It is a good thing one does not have to be a member of MENSA as I know I would not make it.
I could not have said it better, we are brothers in Christ. It is good to sharped the iron every once in a while.
One thing we are not is Indifferent. This quote?? has been credited to Aristotle?? "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."
I would suggest that this verse suits us quite well.
2Ti_4:2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
I have changed the word {3rd person to 1st person} that J. Piper wrote in his book [Five Points Towards a Deeper Experience of God’s Grace pdf pg 14]
"My great desire is to deepen my experience of God’s grace and to honor Him by understanding and believing His truth revealed in Scripture. I pray that I am open to changing any of my ideas which can be shown to contradict the truth of Scripture."
