We also require strict background checks for those involved in children and teen ministries
Here in the UK, the state requires strict background checks to be made for anybody intending to become involved with children or teens, not only church work with children and teens.

Would you want someone who drove a bus to be made an airplane mechanic on a plane you would fly on without instruction. Did any job you had make you president without knowledge of that company? Simply common sense.
Well lets see - In the Army, I was trained in General supply --- at one point, I was selected to be a supply inspector for unit supply. That would be like saying - I am a jeep mechanic - but I want you to inspect tanks!
I had a friend who was a chopper pilot - right when he got out - he became a manager of a connivence store. Not exactly similar jobs.

and I am sure there are many who have taken jobs of very different skills!

which would not require any knowledge of leadership or operation of that job. General supply would seem to provide you with similar skillis as supply inspector.

The qualification for a bishop plainly give the qualifications. I Tim 3:6. Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. This applies to anyone being put into a position of instruction.

Nothing that I know of prepares one to be a leader in a body of Christ other than being a member and instructed by the church. Not even a helicopter pilot. I am sure you would not liken the church unto a convenience store.
