The "Hope" lawsuit

First of all, these two organizations are located in different parts of the country. Hope Channel International is in Maryland and Hope Media Group in Texas, but both work nationally. Hope Channel International will have to prove that the name Hope Media Group confuses consumers on who is who, which is highly unlikely. I would say this is a frivolous lawsuit.

Without a lot of research on my part - (I basically only saw the headline) I would say you are correct.

I remember something similar in a marketing class I had in college. Imagine if Delta Faucets tried to sue Delta Airlines for using the word delta. The ABC Network suing ABC Warehouse. I think Hope International may be using this to get some publicity.

Years ago, the Lockman Foundation, who produced the NASB, supported a Japanese Bible translation effort on the same principles of the NASB. It was called the Shinkaiyaku Bible (新改訳聖書). Years later, the Lockman Foundation sued the Japanese translation team in an American court about copyright issues, and won, forcing the Japanese translation effort to pay for their own copyright! Shameful and unbiblical!

If you want to distinguish yourself from others, perhaps you should pick a name that is a little less common or generic as "Hope?"

Yes, I believe that 1 Cor 6 ought to apply as well as Romans 16:17 of which believers who are outside of this mess should exercise the latter.
