Was Judas, the betrayer of Jesus ever saved. He was one of the original 12 apostles called bt Jesus, and was he saved at that time. If he was did he lose salvation?

We don't know, of course, so we can post our estimates of probabilities. I'd give 99.9% odds he was lost.

To tell the truth I always wondered that. But if what he did....was so unbeareable for him...and he hung himself...is suicide alright?

And if Pharaoh's heart was soft in front of Moses; but when Moses left, his heart was hardend to give God glory....(it was done according to Gods will and plan)....was Pharaoh forgiven? And was this an obedience to God? Will Pharaoh also be in Heaven?

"Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders," Matthew 27:3

I agree that we can never know for sure about anothers salvation. but i do think that it is worth noting that Judas repented.

Faithremains: That just means he changed his mind. I could imagine that he would feel enormously guilty.

Don't forget that Scripture calls Judas a devil. Also, Jesus excused him before the Lord's supper.

Judas is also called the son of destruction (perdition).

Judas is wishing he had a drop of water right about now.

According to the gospels Judas was not saved.
Jesus himself made it pretty clear that it would have been better if Judas had never been born.
Jesus even admitted in his prayer in John 17 that he did lose one of his apostles that God had given him yet there are people who really believe that Judas was once saved so he could not be lost no matter how bad his sin was for betraying the Lord. The Bible obviously does not agree with this.

Let me put this question to readers of this post. We say that all a person has to do is believe in Jesus to be saved. We know Judas at one time did believe Jesus was the Son of God so is this not proof the man was once saved? This is why I question many doctrines that are presented on this board.

Satan believes that Jesus is the Son of God, that doesn't make him saved. Intellectual assent is not the same thing as saving faith.

Jam 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.

In John 6:70-71, Peter has just finished making one of his great professions of utter dependency on Jesus. Then Jesus replied, '" Have I not chosen you twelve and one of you is a devil?"

He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, but it was he who would betray Him, being one of the 12.'

In John 17:12, Jesus calls Judas 'The Son of Perdition." The only other time that title is mentioned refers to the ac, the man of sin, in 2 Thessalonians 2.

God didn't create him to be a devil, but knew that he would be.

The universal idea of satan is that of an ugly red creature with horns and a pitchfork. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The greatest evil loves to lurk in God's territory and even get control of the cash.

    Shalom :D

When Jesus offered the sop to Judas--it was a Jewish custom. Jesus was offering Judas the chance to become His very best friend. Psalm 41:9 reads, "Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me."

Peter said that Judas was a "guide to them that took Jesus."--Acts 1:16

The late, great evangelist E J Daniels said the Judas was "The man who kissed Heaven's Door and went to hell!"

I "ditto" Brother Daniels' thought concerning Judas.

I've always believed that Judas Iscariot was never saved. There are people today within the Christian church that go through the motions and are never really saved. But, just like Judas, the opportunity for salvation is always present for all. Whether we accept God's offer or not is up to us.

If Judas betraying Jesus necessitates that Judas was never saved, then the question is answered, Judas was never saved.

If however, Judas was saved at all at any point, then he surely cannot 'loose' his salvation, no more than any of the saved can loose their salvation. Judas would be just as always saved as any of the other always saved, and his particular sin, no matter how grievous, would be forgiven.

Matt. 12:31 comes to mind: "Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men..."

2 Tim. 2:13 also comes to mind: "If we are faithless he will remain faithful for he cannot disown himself."

Peter also denied Christ and he was forgiven. Why would Judas would not be forgiven, if he were saved?

Of course it's possible that Judas' betrayal of Jesus might have constitued blasphemy against the holy spirit and might therefore be the unpardonable sin. Betraying Jesus unto death might be this blasphemy. Peter also denied Christ, but this was not outright betrayal, it was something of a lesser kind, more weakness than malice and therefore forgivable.

Then we have scriptures that might be referring to Judas, like John 17:12 where Jesus says, "...None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture might be fufilled." We know that Jesus betrayal, trial, death and ressurection were not simply events, they were in fact part of the fulfillment of scripture, orchestrated by the Father. So we might have it that Peter's denial was a sin yes, but not orchestrated to fulfil scripture, but Judas was?

I think this boils down to your view on salvation. If salvation cannot be lost, then it cannot be lost in Judas' case just because the particular sin was so severe. What kind of salvation would that be? This assumes that Judas was saved at one point.

If salvation can be lost, then sure, Judas' betraying Christ is as severe as anything else that might warrant the cancelling of one's life insurance policy.

It's also possible that Judas was never saved, that he never understood, and the message never entered his heart at all. What makes people think that Judas was saved simply because Jesus picked him as one of his diciples? I think this one is the answwer and Jesus picked Judas in order for Judas to commit the act of betrayal and fulfill scripture.

Off to church now. Might be a bit late.

I believe the story of Judas proves the issue of being saved but becoming Apostate and losing their soul. The story of Peter shows a person backsliding yet returning to his faith. The sin of Judas was so severe that though he said he had sinned against innocent blood it did him no good.

Judas was the "son of perdition" whose betrayal of Christ and subsequent damnation were necessary for the fulfilment of Scripture.

hrhema, when did Judas get saved?

I ask because Christ called him the son of destruction and John called him a devil. Were they wrong?

Do we have specific evidence that the fruit of the Spirit was ever seen in Judas' life?

  17. To repent, I believe is one thing, but i do not think that it is the final step in ones questfor salvation. After we repent we still need a savior, not of works lest any man should boast. Does not one have to confess Christ as their Savior????? Only then do we have a savior.. Me thinks, anyway..

i found this topic intersting.. are we not to beleive that if we repent and ask the Lord to forgive us he does and we are redeemed? but judas maybe did not have FAITH that he could be redeemed, thought his sin too great to be forgiven, that is the reason why he was not saved, HOWEVER, if he would have asked forgiveness and lived to further help the apostoles and spread the Word, he could have been saved.. i would like to ask, what would have happen if judas DID NOT betray Jesus and DID NOT give in to temptation and receive the money.. would there be another traitor? like it or not judas plays an important roll to Christ saving us in death..

John 19:10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?

11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin... According to this scripture there must be a Judas to carry out the counsel of the most high God! Why was Judas able to betray him if prophecy wasn't being fulfilled?... Who here has bloodless hands?...

Were you there when they crucified my Lord?... Did you hold the hammer?... Did you drive the nails?... If you are guiltless are you not redeemed?... Christ came to save sinners as Paul triumphantly declared himself to be the chief of. If Judas is saved it will be the same way you are saved... Judas is in Gods hands as we all are!... According to this scripture who had the greater sin?... Brother Glen [IMG]
