I asked a specific question about a specific verse in II Thessalonians 2:3 "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away
first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition:" Contrary to your comment,
Dr. Bob, this verse is not moot. My question
deals with the pre-trib rapture position. I AM PRE-TRIB. My question is whether or not
this specific phrase "falling away" is dealing with apostacy or rature. The text clearly states that this falling away must precede the day of the Lord, and the revealing of the man of sin. Any one who knows the truth concerning end time prophecy
knows that the rapture, or catching away, of the church must come before the anti-Christ
will be revealed, and the tribulation starts.
All I am saying is that there may be a common thread between the words falling away
    and catching away.

Falling Away is the Greek "apostasia" feminine of apostasion (bill of divorce).

From the two roots apo (defection, leaving, away from) and stasis (truth).

Originally derived from "aphistemi" - to revolt, depart, fall away, withdraw.

There is no word for "catching away". I have heard sermons that try to teach this, but it isn't in the Bible.

parousia is translated "coming" of the Lord and is from the present participle meaning "being near" or "presence".

harpazo is used 4 times in the NT (2 when Paul talks about going to heaven, 1 when believers will be taken to heaven and 1 when John was taken to heaven for the revelation of Jesus. It is translated "caught up" and is derived from "seize", "pull up" and "take"

I personally cannot see any parallel, root similarities, synonym or such for "falling away" and "caught up". Think they are apples and oranges as I said earlier.

This passage has nothing to do with the rapture other than to remind us that the apostasy must come first.

For any of you diligent scholars in the subject matter, I have an honest question....not trying to be a smart-alec. I'm just not sure if maybe I'M not understanding the following two verses or not because it looks like the subject G.B.Mac was wanting to see biblical proof was that of as he put it "an anytime rapture", meaning a rapture that will occur without warning...right? No one posted these two verses...(which kinda makes me think that maybe I'm missing something here...don't worry, I'm used to it! [IMG]
Here are the verses I'm wondering about:
1 Thessalonians 5:2 - For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. KJV

2 Peter 3:10 - But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. KJV

Seems to me if I'm not using this verse incorrectly, that referring to His coming as coming 'as a thief in the night' would say that it will happen at a time that none of us will know beforehand. Not many thieves call ahead for an appointment. I don't know, I was just brought up being taught that verse and it has just stuck in my mind. My husband and I go through this all the time. He's been saved for 3 years now and is an avid student in this subject...I've been saved for 16 years and I guess I really just never worried about it to much because I know that no matter what....I'M IN!!!!!

Anybody that has any info about the text I quoted, please let me know...I always welcome knowledge!

    Dr. Bob,
Thanks for your reply. I believe that
what you said is the exact truth. The reason
I posted the topic was just to hear what other men of God had to say to this eroneous
teaching that is springing up in our IFB
    circles. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

If I can give a "brief" outline, I think I can help ya to understand the "rapture".

Jesus came to Israel (fig tree) but they rejected him, (no fig harvest) because he would not
give them the "Signs and wonders" they demanded/expected, so he withered up the "fig
tree" and proceeded to the Gentiles.

Without "Signs and wonders" Jews will not believe, ( Joh 4:48 ) for the Jew requires a
    "sign". ( 1Co 1:22 )

To the Gentiles (Church) Jesus said he was the "VINE" and the "Church" was the "Branch".

Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches:

Now James ask a very important question.
Jas 3:12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs?

If a "VINE" can't bear "Figs" (Jews) how are they saved???

The Church "IS NOT" the "Fig tree", but merely a "Branch" graffed in.

Salvation is only through JESUS, but JESUS doesn't bring Israel to salvation, GOD DOES.

Here's what God said to Jesus:
Mt 22:44 The LORD (God) said unto my Lord, (Jesus) Sit thou on my right hand, till I
    make thine enemies thy footstool?

While God deals with Israel (Tribulation period) Jesus and his "Bride" are enjoying the
    "Marriage Supper".

The parable of Matt 22 tell that the Jews are not worthy to attend the wedding.
Mt 22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden
    were not worthy.

During the Tribulation period, "everything" is in the "physical realm", (Jesus's kingdom is
"spiritual) even Satan is "incarnated" in his son the antichrist, Moses and Elijah, "Two
witnesses" (Law and prophets, ) return, "Signs and wonders" return, Temple sacrifices
return, exactly as God deal with Israel in the OT.

The parable of Matt 20 tell that the church has "borne the heat of the day for the Gospel,
while the Jews have been "enemies of the gospel", ( Ro 11:28 ) but in the last "HOUR"
they will work for the gospel and be restored back to "FIRST PLACE". This "same hour"
the Jews work is also the "same hour" Jesus promised to keep the church from:

Re 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the
hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the
    earth.

Jesus promised that the "gates of Hell" would not prevail against "his Bride", but during
    the tribulations Satan does prevail.

    Da 7:21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
Re 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them:
and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

There's only a 144,000 sealed, all Jews, the locust who come from Hell torment all who
don't have the "Seal", ( Re 9:4 ), if the church was here, they too would be praying to die.

Jesus reaping and "Angel reaping" are exact opposites of each.

Jesus reapings are "righteous", "going up" leaving the wicked, (for tribulation)
Angel reaping are "Wicked", "going down" leaving the righteous (for Millennium). Wheat
    and tares.

Day of Christ, Jesus is "bridegroom" coming for his bride. (Rapture)
Day of the Lord, Jesus is "Lord of Lords", (millennium Reign)
Day of God, Jesus is "King of Kings", (Great White throne judgment)

These are but a "few" of the changes the "Rapture" will make, "In the twinkling of an eye",
this world will pass from a world ruled by "Jesus's spiritual kingdom" to the "literal"
    ruling "physical kingdom of "Satan",(antichrist).
