What About The Sabbath?! Many Baptists Do not Keep the Sabbath ..Why???l

Revalation 14:12 shows that The Ten Commandments which are Law go together with the Faith of Jesus, that is why they are kept. Dietry Laws were changed by Peters Vision, which is something the bible clearly speaks about, unlike what some of the brethren can percieve about the change of the Sabbath, which did never occur.

Jim H, I thoroughly read what John Wells had to say concerning the Shadow of things to come. I didnt bother to respond to knock him down, simply because I prefer to present my own reasons for why I feel that it is important to come out of Catholiscm, and knock down the Sunday Sabbath doctrine.

I would still as a Sabbath Keeper acknowledge all of the Sunday keepers as friends, and I dont believe the day of worship to be a salvation issue. My point is based on what the Bible says, versus what the Pope says.

Abiyah, I hope all these meals you are eating on the Sabbath are cooked on the Day of Preparation as cooking is forbidden on the Sabbath, as is traveling over 2/3 of a mile.
8oD You need not worry about my Sabbath-
keeping. 8oD No, I do not cook on Sabbath;
thank you for your concern.

And don't forget to stone your husband to death if he breaks the Sabbath.
Now, that is funny! My husband does not keep
Sabbath. However, he fully, completely, backs me
in my keeping of Sabbath, and when he has
Sabbath off from work, he keeps it with me.

So you want me to judge him? Judge him, find
him guilty, and kill him? By myself. In my opinion,
I will need two or three witnesses, then our whole
community will need to get together to pull the job.
We must obey the Law completely, you know.

Well, perhaps not this week, okay? He has
Sabbath off; he will keep Sabbath and go to
Synagogue with me. Maybe next week. 8o)

What many do not seem to understand is that
the Law for Sabbath-keeping was given forever
to Jews and to those who accept their God; the
law for stoning those who do not keep Sabbath
is for the Land; I live in the United States, where
this would be illegal. 8o) Of course, if I got
really mad at him . . . .

We all need to remember that Jesus taught under the old covenant.
He did not do away with the law, but fulfilled it.
You, my dear, need to do a study on the word
fulfill. Many stumble over this word, so I
understand -- especially, your teachers have
failed you in this. Perhaps you could also do a
study of Matthew 5 to find out what our Lord said
about Torah (instruction). In fact, a study of the
words Torah and Law would help, as well as an
honest study of the words Sabbath and Lord's
day
, just for fun. 8o)

We now have a Sabbath rest in Christ.
If you only keep part of the Sabbath laws, those that are not inconvenient for you, then I say you are hypocrites.
And if you must keep the Sabbath laws, why not the dietary laws?
Wow! I am amazed at your attitude. You come
here to judge me, to tell me how to live, when I
have done nothing that should cause you to have
such an attitude? Have I judged you? All I have
done is answer Wall's innocent question. I even
expressed how I often just stay away from these
subjects, because of the attitudes they bring out.

How do you know I do not fully keep Sabbath?
You have judged me, and your judgment is in error.
What are you going to do about that? I ask not for
my sake because your judgment of me is more
humorous than damaging; I ask for your sake.

You need to drop this judgmental attitude. My
Lord said, "Do not judge so that you will not be
judged. For in the way you judge, you will be
judged; and by your standard of measure, it will
be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck
that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the
log that is in your own eye?"

Oh, and by the way, I do eat kosher.

Why not the ceremonial laws?
I believe you all only keep the parts of the laws you want to keep and ignore the rest.
Oh. What laws am I breaking? I would be glad to
hear you out, if we can have a civil conversation.
8o)

Show me where the Law ever applied to non-Jews?
The only inkling of this is when Jews were told not to allow aliens to work and disturb their Sabbath.

The law was for the Israelites. God repeated this many times when giving it.

MR
Jeremiah 31: 31 - 34
Luke 34:44
Matthew 5:17 - 21
for a few of many.

Oh. And check out who was standing at the
mountain when the Law was given. It wasn't just
Jews, and it wasn't just for Jews.

Another thing: if you reject the Law, do you also
reject the promises of our God that go with it?
Do you reject all of the instruction previous to our
Lord's birth? You also reject all those promises?
That part of the BIble is not just a nice story book.
8o) Either it is relevant or it is not. It is either the
eternal Word of our God, or it is not and it is
useless -- trash heap fodder. We all make our
choices, but the Apostles, the Bible-writers,
seemed to think it relevant.

Gee Abiyah, I am sorry!

It was a sincere question. I have found that many people who firmly believe something and attack others for what they believe have never studied the subject out for themselves. What they believe is based on what they have been taught by someone else only using a few choice verses but never a complete study of the subject. That was why I asked earlier who has actually studied this out.

Many people that I know say well that is not really what that means or you have to look at the spirtual application. To me the Bible is interpreted literaly first then spiritual. It is said that the Bible is the equivalent to 6th grade reading, why then would we have have a problem reading and understanding the Bible, especially if we have the Holy Spirit within us that leads us?

Many non-jews in the OT followed the law not because they had to, but because they wanted to. Today if we are free from the law yet choose to please the Lord by responding to His word then why would someone have a problem with it? They always say,"you don't have to do it" To me that is a way to do what ever you want!

Just to make one thing clear.

In Acts 15 What was forbidden is the teaching that pro-active Law keeping is a requirement for salvation and/or pleasing God.

Acts 15
10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them...

24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

So, God Himself through His Apostles says teaching Law-keeping (which includes Sabbath-keeping) for salvation "tempts God" and "subverts souls"

According to the Torah itself it is impossible to keep. Under the Torah, every jot and tittle must be kept or a curse is received.
In 70AD Titus, the son of the then Roman emporer
and the armies of Rome, surrounded, besieged and then sacked Jerusalem, killed hundreds of thousands of Jews enslaved the survivors and destroyed the Temple.

Much of Torah-keeping depends upon the temple and the Levitical priesthood.

Leviticus 6:13 The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.

The earthly altar fire has gone out, Torah-keeping officially passed away in 70AD
It is now IMPOSSIBLE to keep the Law in toto.

In my opinion, if people are saved and want to keep parts of the Law for heritage sake and/or a vehicle to bring Christ to the Jews then it is proper as long as they are clear on salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Romans 1
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Luke 5
36 And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Hank D, I appreciate the salvation message. Yes salvation is of faith and grace not of works. I don't believe anyone is teaching that you must keep the Sabbath (law) in order to be saved.

We were created by God for His pleasure Rev 4:11. It would only seem appropriate to live a life pleasing to God. If someone is led through Bible study and prayer to do a certain thing, why do people have such a problem?

There is no problem.
The Baptist Board is not only a place of fellowship but a place where we are encouraged to air our differences, engage in polite debate and challenge each other as to our perceptions of the Word of God for our lives.

Thank you, Walls. It really is no big deal. 8o)

I agree with Hank tha salvation is certainly not
dependant upon keeping the Sabbath. My
salvation rests wholly upon the death,
resurrection, and Word of my Lord. My works
cannot save, nor do they bring me special favor
with our God.

Pastor Chet, If you really want to see a Sabbath thread get going, post one in the Other Christians forum, we have a couple of Seventh Day Adventist Brethren who have some excellent points about Sabbath Keeping, yet because they are Adventists they can not post in the Baptist Forum for obvious reasons.

Ben W,

re: "Dietry Laws were changed by Peters Vision..."

If Peter didn't understand the vision to mean that, how come you do?

Well, touching the other beliefs I have no question.
But let me ask you something. Does superman really exist or is just a myth ? :D

Superman exists. Every man on this board who can successfully do home repairs and juggle a wife and children wears a red cape (and probably an orange smock, to boot!)

Ben W,

re: "Because I have the full Bible."

What specific teachings of the Messiah/Word - which eventually ended up in the Bible that you have - did Peter not have, thus preventing him from being able to understand that the status of unclean animals had changed and that they were now considered to be food?

Thanks to Pastor Ben W and pastor Chet and to all of you guys for making this Board interesting.
May I ask you something? This is regarding to Dietary and Sabbath Laws. Are these laws mandatory in a Christian life . They said the laws are changed. Are these really altered or changed or modified or whatever? Jesus said HE DID COME TO FULFILL THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS. What does it mean? But Paul said the laws were abolished. But which laws?

What do you think?

I personally do not keep the Sabbath Holy.
The fourth commandment of keeping the sabbath holy is the only one that is not exhorted in the new Testament. Every other commandment is exhorted one way or another.
Example:
1st commandment. I am the LORD thy God...Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
New Testament:
Matthew 4:10 ...Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
1 John 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

There is no commandment exhorting sabbath keeping in the ENTIRE New Testament. Rather, (1) we find that we are to let no man judge us when it comes to sabbath days (Col. 2:16), (2) we find Jesus saying the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath (Mark 2:27), and (3) we find that the seventh day sabbath is a shadow of the true, heavenly rest (Hebrews 4:4-4:11).
For those that would understand the true meaning of the Old Testament ordinances, feast days, sabbath days, etc. there is the book of Hebrews. It contrasts the old covenant with the new and shows us how the old was simply a shadow of heavenly things. Hebrews shows the superiority of Jesus Christ in every aspect and how His sacrifice did away with sundry washings, etc. Jesus is better in every way--
§ He is a better sacrifice than animals (9:23-10:12)
§ He is a better Priest than the Levitical priesthood (6:20-7:24)
§ He is better than Moses (3:3)
§ He is came by a better tabernacle (9:11)
§ He brings a better covenant. (8:6, 7:19)
§ He offers better promises (8:6)
§ He offers a better country (that is, an heavenly Heb 11:16)
§ He offers a better sabbath (4:4-4:11)
§ He is better than the angels (1:4)
The whole of the Christian life is about Jesus Who is the Best. Our true sabbath, our true rest, comes when we pass to the other side.
Anyway, the Sabbath was not changed to Sunday. The funny things I don’t think any so called true Sabbath keepers (SDA) actually keep it holy according to the Bible
