It's the New Testament's position. You said we look to the Scriptures to determine who is right. Well there it is in plain sight, explicitly stated in the Scriptures. "You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone." (James 2:24)

Ok, that makes it easier. Paul never says you are saved by faith alone. In fact, he tells the Romans "we are saved by hope." (8:24)
