God's Wisdom versus Earthly, Sensual, and Demonic Wisdom about Instrumental Music

I do not see anywhere in the Bible that a drum is, in and of itself, ungodly. If you do, be sure and let me know. Many drums are, or used to be, made from animal skins. Many people wear sheepskin coats. I have never heard anyone say that they are ungodly, though perhaps a vegan might. I have...

Baptism Doth Also Now Save Us

Not a fact, but a silly, prejudiced error. Here is another snide remark. No quotation, no evidence, no Scriptural evidence, just a rather nasty way of putting forward your unbiblical views. You need to stop it. These things have nothing to do with Augustine's theology. PhD graduates who...

    New Perspective on Paul revisited

I'm sorry! Here's the link: A movement called the 'New Perspective on Paul' (NPP) first began quietly reshaping how evangelicals understood the gospel back in the 1970s. From British and Canadian universities, it gained influence in seminaries through the 1980s and '90s, then made its way into...

Baptism Doth Also Now Save Us

No, Calvinist suits me fine, thanks. They do align with Scripture, and if you knew Scripture properly you would realise that. Now stop with the snide comments. They do you no credit.

Baptism Doth Also Now Save Us

Unfortunately this is not quite what Paul wrote. The NSRV has added the word 'as' on two occasions. Here is the NKJV translation: 'there is also an antitype that saves us - baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience towards God), through the...

Baptism Doth Also Now Save Us

'We only use the term 'Calvinism' for shortness. That doctrine which is called 'Calvinism' did not spring from Calvin; we believe that it sprang from the great Founder of all truth. ...... We use the term then, not because we impute any extraordinary importance to Calvin's having taught these...

    Why do Christians sin?

Just so. Our battle with sin is a constant one which will last as long as we live. It is precisely because we have died to sin that we are to put to death our earthly passions. Colossians 3:3ff. 'For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God ..... THEREFORE put to death your...

    New Perspective on Paul revisited

I thought this was a helpful overview of the issue of the NPP. Some may reject it because it is written by a woman, but I believe it is helpful and true. https://www.evangelical-times.org/new-perspective-on-paul-revisited-a-primer-and-warning/?ref=online-extra-newsletter

God's Wisdom versus Earthly, Sensual, and Demonic Wisdom about Instrumental Music

I'm not aware that the manufacture of trumpets is laid down in Scripture. No doubt if they were made from human body parts we should not use them, and I think it would probably be illegal to do such a thing anyway. Personally, I do not like the use of brass instruments in the worship of God...

God's Wisdom versus Earthly, Sensual, and Demonic Wisdom about Instrumental Music

I did not suggest that it did. All it seems to establish is that trumpets are not, in and of themselves, satanic.

Christ the risen Saviour, not potential Saviour! 4

I know that most people on this board do not open links, so here is the Pink quote written out. It may appear to some of our readers that the exposition we have given of John 3:16 in the chapter on “Difficulties and Objections” is a forced and unnatural one, inasmuch as our definition of the...

Christ the risen Saviour, not potential Saviour! 4

Thank you for posting all that, though I'm not quite sure what you hoped to accomplish by it. What you have proved beyond a doubt is that A.W. Pink was entirely right that the Greek word kosmos can, and usually does, mean a whole lot more that simply 'all the people in the world.'

Christ the risen Saviour, not potential Saviour! 4

It certainly is. If Christ has propitiated the Father in respect of the sins of everybody in the whole world, then He is propitiated and evryone is saved. 'Payment God will not twice demand; Once at my bleeding Surety's hand, And the again from me.' Augustus Toplady.

Christ the risen Saviour, not potential Saviour! 4

A.W. Pink was not a hyper-Calvinist. He believed that the Gospel should be be preached to all and that all those who believe will be saved. Read his biography by Iain Murray. You are quite wrong. John 2:2, NASB (1995). '... And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours...

Christ the risen Saviour, not potential Saviour! 4

You are making the assumption that 'world' in the Bible always means 'all the people in the world.' Have a read of these: A.W. PINK AND THE DEFINITION OF "KOSMOS" The Scriptures and the World by Arthur W. Pink Also, in 1 John 2:2, the words 'the sins of' are not found in any ancient...

God's Wisdom versus Earthly, Sensual, and Demonic Wisdom about Instrumental Music

This would be my view. In these days of electric amplification, a single keyboard is sufficient to keep the largest congregation in tune, which is all that is needed IMO. I'm not sure that the temple worship of the O.T. is necessarily an example for us. There were, of course, no keyboards, let...

A church founded on schism having it's own schism

You won't be surprised to learn that I would re-name this thread to read, "A denomination founded upon the Bible is foundering without the Bible." I know some of the people involved with AMiE, the 'Anglican Mission in Europe' which is part of GAFCON. They are fine Christian people, but I...

    Born Anew?

Where did I suggest that anyone could give birth to himself? Nowhere. It is you who 'defect' (deflect?) by suggesting that people dead in trespasses and sins can seek God, in direct contradiction of several texts, including 1 Cor. 2:14. Romans 3:11. 'There is none who seeks God.' Full stop...

    "Thirty-day Baptists"

We do not celebrate Passover. We are not remembering Israel's exodus, but our Lord's death on the cross. "Do this in remembrance of Me.' I realise that you did not say otherwise. Just so. "As often as you eat this bread or drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.' There...

    "Thirty-day Baptists"

It is, or was, the custom for Scottish Presbyterian church to have only one or two 'Communion seasons' each year. During the famous 'Cambuslang awakening' of 1742, a decision was taken to have an extra communion. A well-known minister, James Robe of Kilsyth wrote: ‘It hath not been known in...
