    Lydia's Conversion

??? Then you have no basis for claiming something that scripture doesn’t say. That’s how Mormons and Jehovah’s witnesses argue.

IGNORING GREEK VERBS AFFECTS BAPTIST THEOLOGY

It is true that the Greek language carries much more data than English does but I don’t understand the concern over the tense of “believe”. We all agree that saving faith needs to include continuous belief. The confusion Russell seems to be whether or not we must keep ourselves in a state of...

    Lydia's Conversion

What scripture says she was already regenerated before she came to faith?

IGNORING GREEK VERBS AFFECTS BAPTIST THEOLOGY

I do not understand why the tense of a word is being blown out of proportion. If at any point in time you are believing then you can have assurance that you have eternal life. If at any point in time you are not believing then you cannot have assurance that you have eternal life. Simple as that.

Congrats DT!! Nice speech!! Birth right Citizenship

Yes, that was the intention of the 14th amendment, however the wording does make it specific to slaves or children of slaves. I have a hard time thinking that a conservative SCOTUS will interpret it other than what it plainly says.

    Lydia's Conversion

Amen. Lydia is a perfect example of someone who has been given the ability to respond positively to the Gospel since she was actively being drawn to Christ. What others have said is true, God did have to work in her heart first for her to even be able to seek after Him. She was following the...

    Giving Under Compulsion?

Just because an offering plate is passed around does not mean the church leaders have nefarious motives. Remember in the early church the new believers laid down their possessions at the apostle’s feet, I’m sure they saw what each person was giving. That doesn’t mean the apostles were forcing...

    Hyper-Calvinism

Many Calvinists will say that because God foreknew that Adam would sin then that must mean that He caused Adam to sin. Why? Because Adam can’t thwart God’s knowledge of future events. There are also other scriptures that shows God responding to human action and even sometimes not getting the...

    KJVO IFB churches

I would say only if all aspects of worship is surrounding the KJB. I’ve been to several KJVO IFB churches where they basically bow down to their preferred English translation and it feels very cult-like. I’ve also been to several KJVO IFB churches that don’t do that and I think they’re pretty solid.

    Why are Baptists so divisive?

You are right that Baptists tend to be more picky about one thing or another. However, the list of things you mentioned aren’t exclusive to Baptists or any other denomination. I’m sorry to put it this way brother, but you seem to come across as disgruntled more than anything else. All I can...

Can Predestination and Free Will Coexist?

I don’t disagree with your point. I would add that there will inevitably be follow-up questions that will need answers to. Does God’s will include that all lost sinners have the opportunity to get saved? If so, has that prevenient grace been provided to everyone so they can make that decision...

Can Predestination and Free Will Coexist?

I agree, however you have to be careful about going for the “middle ground” approach if that means you have to come up with all sorts of philosophies and speculations in order to make two contrary doctrines fit together. I agree that God sovereignly chooses individuals to be saved and at the...
