“The prodigal son and the unjust Steward”

Do you have horns on your head or something else? Are you Aaron or Moses?;)
My avatar is from a public domain photo of Michelangelo's Moses.

The Vulgate was the approved translation, and Jerome translated rays (shone) as horns, which is how the Heb can be translated in other places.

It's the photo on the cover of my copy of Gleason Archer's Survey of Old Testament Introduction.

It represents the reader's dedication to the text, even though it may seem ridiculous.

Friend, to understand what JESUS said and says, He is forever and ever, it is necessary, first of all, to have the Spirit of JESUS. It is impossible to understand what JESUS says to those who have not the Spirit of Christ..

Having the Spirit of Christ is truly necessary to understanding God's Word. In fact, that is exactly what Christ told His disciples before dying on a cross:

John 16:7-9
King James Version

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

"The Comforter" is the Spirit of Truth. Christ foretells His coming cannot precede His Own departure. When He comes, He will reprove unbelievers (v.9).

John 16:12-14
King James Version

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Because we know He was sent to minister to unbelievers, we can say that His priority is revealing the Gospel of Christ to unbelievers, as these two passages teach.

But here's the cool thing:

John 14:15-23
King James Version

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Christ is the Consolation of Israel, thus "another Comforter" will be sent. He is called here "the Spirit of Truth." He will, according to v.16—be with believers forever (contrasted to Christ not being with them much longer).

Note lastly that the Spirit of truth is already "with" the disciples but is not "in them." This is the reference to the eternal indwelling of God in the believer, after He returns and sends the Spirit of Truth.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Did you catch that? Here it is again:

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

So, "another Comforter," designated as Christ (The Son) coming. This is not hard to understand, seeing that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one and the same. Three distinct personages yet One. So far, we see that the coming of the Holy Spirit is also the coming of The Son.

19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

"At that day," the Lord states, believers would know that The Son is in The Father—and the believer.

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

So, "at that day (when The Son has returned to Heaven and the Comforter is sent, those who love Jesus will be indwelt by The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost ("Ghost" being the term used in Old English that represents "Spirit," so the two words mean the same thing (as opposed to a spectral figure of a human that has died).

The reason why we are indwelt by God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost is because God is One. There is no brother in the Trinity. The coming of the Spirit of Truth (the Holy Spirit) is the coming of the Son, and is the coming of the Father—to live in the believer that responds to the truth the Holy Spirit reveals to them as unbelievers.

1 Peter 1:11-12
King James Version

11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

The Holy Spirit also reveals the Gospel through ministers.

And I am afraid I only read half of the thread; did you ever present Scripture you base the Holy Spirit being the Son's brother rather than being God Himself?

God bless.

Thank you for your kind and wise reply. Allow me to answer you together with the post of David Lamb, ass follow:

I agree that Jesus Christ is forever and ever, and we need to have His Spirit.
But you haven't answered my question, which was: "Sorry, where do we read of God the Father saying to Jesus, " This thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found, It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad?""
Well, it must be in all versions of the Bible, here are two versions:

1- Luke 15- Complete Jewish Bible combined with Isaiah 7:15-16:

31 ‘Son, you are always with me,’ said the father, and everything I have is yours.
32 We had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead but has come back to life — he was lost but has been found.’”

2- Luke 15 King James Version
31 And He said unto Him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is Thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this Thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

Isaiah 7:14-15 KJV
15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to REFUSE the EVIL, and choose the GOOD.

16 For before the child shall know to REFUSE the EVIL, and choose the GOOD, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings. (Kings/Kingdoms of Judah and Israel. Both have disappeared).

Luke 15:17-32 King James Version
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my Father's have bread enough and to spare(the true believers, sons of GOD), and I perish with hunger!

18 I will arise and go to my Father, and will say unto Him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before Thee,

19 And am no more worthy to be called Thy son: make me as one of Thy hired servants.

20 And he arose, and came to his Father. But when he was yet a great way off(so far and out of Father's house), His Father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and FELL on his neck, and KISSED him.

21 And the son said unto Him, Father, I have sinned against heaven(Ephesians 1:3-10 and so on), and in Thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called Thy son.

22 But the Father said to His servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a RING on his hand(now an alliance between both, which had not existed before, even though had him been born of the same One, i.e. from whom JESUS was born, the firstborn, the elder brother), and shoes on his feet:

23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:

24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

25 Now his elder Son (the firstborn) was in the field: and as He came and drew nigh to the house, He heard musick and dancing.

26 And He called one of the servants(Revelation 1:1 and 22:8-9, take a look), and asked what these things meant.

27 And he said unto Him, Thy brother is come; and thy Father hath killed the fatted calf, because He hath received him safe and sound.

28 And He was angry, and would not go in: therefore came His Father out, and intreated Him.

29 And He answering said to His Father, Lo, these many years do I serve Thee, neither transgressed I at any time Thy commandment: and yet Thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

30 But as soon as this Thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, Thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

31 And the Father said unto Him, Son, thou art ever with me(John 1:18 and 10:30 and 17:5, take a look), and all that I have is thine.->(John 17:10)

32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this Thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

GOD bless

Daniel 7:22-27
22 Until the Ancient of days came, and Judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom. ->(Revelatiopn 11:15-18)

23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

26 But the Judgment shall sit->(1Corinthians 6:2-3 combined with verse 22 above), and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.
27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose Kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. ->(Daniel 2:40-47, take a look)

I'm afraid I can't see using Christ telling a parable as a prooftext for making the Spirit of God His brother as a valid approach. Using that method, there are numerous parables that could be misrepresented as teaching something about Christ that Scripture denies elsewhere.

I did take a look at Revelation 22:8-9, and again, see nothing that suggests the Holy Spirit is the Son's brother. Consider:

Revelation 22:13

King James Version

13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

This is the Son saying I Am God. He also says it here:

Isaiah 44:6
Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

And it's interesting to note that when God spoke to Israel in the past, we see He did so by His Spirit:

Acts 7:51
King James Version

51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

God has no brothers. He is One.

Can I ask you, what group are you affiliated with?

God bless.

Isaiah 7:13-16
13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?

14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.->
(Revelation 12:1-5).
15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to REFUSE the evil, and choose the good.
16 For before the child shall know to REFUSE the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

Luke 15:29-32

29 And He answering said to His Father, Lo, these many years do I serve Thee, neither transgressed I at any time Thy commandment: and yet Thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 But as soon as this Thy son was come, which hath devoured Thy living with harlots, Thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

31 And He said unto Him, Son, Thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.-> (John 17:10-11)
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother WAS DEAD, and IS ALIVE AGAIN; and was lost, and is found.

Revelation 11:4 ->
These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.->(the third of the three)

1Corinthians 1:27-29

27 But GOD hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and GOD hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath GOD chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in His presence.

John 15:26 - The older brother said:
26 But when the Comforter is come
, whom I WILL SEND unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of Truth, which proceedeth from the Father->(Isaiah 7:14-16, the Word is GOD, GOD the Father): he shall testify of me.->Revelation 1:1 and 12-18: -> 1 The Revelation of JESUS Christ, which GOD gave unto Him, to shew unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass; and He sent and signified it by His angel(archangel) unto His servant. 12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; ->13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one LIKE UNTO THE SON of MAN, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, FEAR NOT; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and WAS DEAD; and, behold, I AM ALIVE for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Revelation 22:8-9 and 16-17 :
-> 8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel (archangel-Revelation 12:7, and so on) which shewed me these things.
9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy FELLOWSERVANT, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship GOD.
16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

John 16:12-15

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for HE SHALL NOT SPEAK OF HIMSELF; but whatsoever HE SHALL HEAR, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
