Hi Daisy. I'm a little tired of having my appearance made fun of by you know who. I'm sorry if maybe I took a little out on you.

What I want is a heavy truck, with a deer guard on the front. I do not want legislation to remove my deer guard, and that's what this will lead to. I want people to mind their own business. You should not worry about how much gas I use.

People make fun of the way I look, too. And the way I talk. And the way I dress. Unfortunately, for me, it's only getting worse. [IMG]

I work with a guy who has a nice-shaped head like you. I was kind of sorry when he went & covered it up again with hair after his chemo stopped.

What does fuel effiency & emissions control have to do with deer-guards? Not every regulation is bad - go to a country which has too few and you'll see, literally.

I part company with many allies on this issue. The environment is a legitimate "common welfare" issue. Pollution cannot be done in a way that guarantees only you will be affected.

Fuel mileage standards are an effective way of addressing some of those concerns. Further, the trust relationship between the auto companies and their unions creates a negative resistance to market pressures. The entry cost of car building is prohibitive. It is an industry on a scale beyond the vision of the founders. Absent a change of the economies of scale that would allow a small mfr to compete, this business be regulated.

If there is a solution I am missing please let me know since my throat started closing in as I wrote the above rationalization.

Deer guards are heavy and probably even more so where Curtis lives. Run into an bull elk and you'll understand the practicality.

    Weight directly impacts fuel consumption.

All the more reason to be in favor of fuel efficiency.

How much do deer guards weigh? We're overrun with white-tail deer here (pretty small compared to an elk), but I've never noticed a deer guard on the trucks - but maybe I just don't know what one looks like.

    Huh?

I am not opposed to fuel efficiency... I drive a Sentra. But I am opposed to oppressive gov't. There are better solutions than putting onerous restrictions on individual liberty.

Not too sure about the weight. Many I have seen were homemade attachments; fairly large steel pipes welded to the front.

Elk are huge. I had one jump out in front of my car in Montana one time. I first thought someone's horse had escaped. A moose is even bigger.

Our deer here in Missouri probably outweigh yours by as much as 50 lbs on average. Maybe more.

Yeah, I got that - I meant all the more reason for Bro Curtis - or anyone else who has a guard - to be in favor.

I had a pair of young mooses gallop past me (on foot) on an Alaskan road - they were nearly horse-size.

Hey guys, thanx for staying on-topic.

You can drive around my neighborhood, and count the cars with smashed in front ends. You can also see the 1/4 mile skid marks, ending at a big red & brown spot on the road.

My deer guard is made of flat iron, but we are looking into aluminum. My mountain bike is aluminum, and it's proved it'self to be very strong.
