    Day Twenty-One

    Cross of Christ
Scott Krippayne and Dwight Liles (C) 1998 New Spring Publishing

I will lay down the burdens I've spent my life bearing,
And confess I'm a sinner for whom Jesus died.
I will live every moment in the light of His mercy,
And I won't take for granted His loving sacrifice.

I will carry the cross of Christ; hold to the hope I'm given,
Reach out to those in need, and show them love.
With all of my soul and strength, as long as my heart is beating,
I'll follow the One who laid down His life for mine,
And carry the cross of Christ.

I will make it my mission to serve those around me,
To care for the broken and pray for the lost.
I will walk in the footsteps of my Lord and my Savior,
And I'll live out the Gospel no matter what the cost.

I will carry the cross of Christ; hold to the hope I'm given,
Reach out to those in need, and show them love.
With all of my soul and strength, as long as my heart is beating,
I'll follow the One who laid down His life for mine,
And carry the cross of Christ.

And I will not lay it down 'til I lay it at His feet,
No, I will not lay it down 'til I touch eternity!

I will carry the cross of Christ; hold to the hope I'm given,
Reach out to those in need, and show them love.
With all of my soul and strength, as long as my heart is beating,
I'll follow the One who laid down His life for mine,
And carry the cross of Christ.

    I Believe
Wes King (C) 1993 Edward Grant, Inc.

I believe in six days and a rest,
God is good, I do confess.
I believe in Adam and Eve,
In the tree in the Garden and the snake and the thief.

    I believe, I believe,
I believe in the Word of God,
    I believe, I believe,
    ‘Cause He made me believe.

I believe Noah built an ark of wood
A hundred and twenty years, no one understood.
    I believe Elijah never died,
He called fire from Heaven on a mountain side.

    I believe, I believe,
I believe in the Word of God,
    I believe, I believe,
    ‘Cause He made me believe.

It’s been passed down through ages of time,
Written by hands of men, inspired by the Lord,
His word will remain ‘til the end.

I believe Isaiah was a prophet of old,
The Lamb was slain just as he foretold.
I believe Jesus was the Word made man,
And He died for my sins, and He rose again!
    Don’t you know that…

    I believe, I believe,
I believe in the Word of God,
    I believe, I believe,
    ‘Cause He made me believe.

Day Twenty-Three – This one may have too much symbolism for some of you, but I think it’s ingenious. I really like Mr. Peterson’s way of “spinning a yarn” and I find he is one of the greatest wordsmiths in Christian music, if not all of the music industry. That of course, is my humble opinion. Since some won’t like it because Christ is not expressly mentioned, I’ll leave the Scripture reference at the end, although by then you may not need it. In His Grip, joshua.

    Loose Change
Andrew Peterson © 2001 New Spring Publishing

I’d give you all of me to know what you were thinking.
And if I had one wish I’d wish I wasn’t sinking here,
Drowning in this well, O can’t you tell…

That I can’t pick myself up off the ground?
I’ve been face down and pushed aside.
Well, you know I’d rather just turn tail and run,
Than lie here in the sun and watch you pass me by
    ‘Cause I ain’t worth a dime.

But if only I could stand up straight, I wouldn’t have to lie and wait,
I could up and roll away and never be ignored.
I’ve got a feeling that I’m something more than just a piece of copper ore,
Turning green and looking for the reason I was born.

I’ve been around since 1964 in banks and bottom drawers; on railroad ties,
I’ve been passed around and cast aside,
Skipped and flipped and flattened wide,
Spun around and thrown away and left alone to lie.

But if only I could stand up straight, I wouldn’t have to lie and wait,
I could up and roll away and never be ignored.
I’ve got a feeling that I’m something more than just a piece of copper ore,
Turning green and looking for the reason I was born.

But I heard about a penny found, lying underneath the couch,
By a woman who was kneeling down and looking for some change.
Then the woman danced around and called her friends all over town
And told them what was lost was found, it’s another penny saved.

So I find that all this time beneath the surface I could shine
Like all the gold a king and queen could measure…
You see, even just a penny is a treasure.

Day Twenty-Four - New artist Joy Williams, a 19 year-old singer from Californina, with a voice beyond her years. Of all the teen singers out there, she shows (to me) the most promise for a staying career. I hope so. In His Grip, joshua

Do They See Jesus in Me?
Pete Carlson and Amy Roth (C) 2001 Matters Most Music

Is the face that I see in the mirror
The One I want others to see?
Do I show in the way that I walk in my life
The love that You've given to me?
My heart's desire is to be like You
In all that I do, all I am.

Do they see Jesus in me?
    Do they recognize Your face?
Do I communicate Your love, and Your grace?
Do I reflect who You are
In the ways I choose to be?
Do they see Jesus in me?

It's amazing that You'd ever use me,
But use me the way You will.
Help me to hold out a heart compassionate grace,
A heart that Your spirit fills.
May I show forgiveness and mercy
The way You've shown it to me.

Do they see Jesus in me?
    Do they recognize Your face?
Do I communicate Your love, and Your grace?
Do I reflect who You are
In the ways I choose to be?
Do they see Jesus in me?

Now I want to show all the world who You are,
The reason I live and breathe,
So You'll be the One that they see
    When they see me...

Do they see Jesus in me?
    Do they recognize Your face?
Do I communicate Your love, and Your grace?
Do I reflect who You are
In the ways I choose to be?
Do they see Jesus in me?
Let them see Jesus in me.

Day Twenty-Five - This is an early posting for Friday.

    This Road
Dan Haseltine, Charlie Lowell, Matt Odmark, Stephen Mason © 1999 New Spring Publishing

    All heavy-laden, acquainted with sorrow,
May Christ in our marrow, carry us home.
From alabaster come blessings of laughter,
A fragrance of passion and joy from the truth.

Grant the unbroken, tears ever flowing
From hearts of contrition only for You.
May sin never hold true that love never broke through,
For God’s mercy holds us, and we are His own.

This road that we travel, may it be the straight and narrow.
God give us peace and grace from You all the day.

Shelter with fire, our voices we raise still higher.
God, give us peace and grace from You all the through.

This road that we travel, may it be the straight and narrow.
God give us peace and grace from You all the day.

Day Twenty-Six - Early posting for Saturday.

    You Can
Ross King (C) 2002 Ross King

You can speak the private language of my soul.
You can hear the whispers of my heart.
You can navigate the deepest, darkest hole
    Of my inner parts.

You can take the selfish things we pray to You
And somehow let Your tender heart be stirred.
You can hear the things our songs would say to You
If we could find the words.

You are the finest thing I could life for,
And I pray You are the thing for which I die.
You're hard to know, but so easy to approach,
And after all, what else is there to life?

You can ride the clouds or ride a donkey's colt.
Youc an walk on waves or walk on sod.
    Balancing the great irreconcilable,
    Fully man and fully God.

You can squeeze a rich man through a needle's eye,
But squeezing is a painful thing for sure.
And we rich folks don't like pain, so maybe that is why You say,
    "Blessed are the poor."

You are the finest thing I could life for,
And I pray You are the thing for which I die.
You're hard to know, but so easy to approach,
And after all, what else is there to life?

'Cause You can spin the earth and hold the sun in place,
And You nudge every autumn leaf to fall,
And You can swim in every tear on every face,
    For You created all.
    O, You created all.

    Day Twenty-Seven

    If You Want Me To
Ginny Owens and Kyle Matthews (C) 1998 Rocketown Music

The pathway is broken and the signs are unclear,
And I don't know the reason why You brought me here.
But just because You love me the way that You do,
I'm gonna walk through the valley if You want me to.

'Cause I'm not who I was when I took my first step,
And I'm clinging to the promise You're not through with me yet.
So if all of these trials bring me closer to You
Then I will go through the fire if You want me to.

It may not be the way I would have chosen,
When You lead me through a world that's not my home.
But You never said it would be easy,
You only said I'll never go alone.

So when the whole world turns against me,
    And I'm all by myself.
And I can't hear You answer my cries for help,
I'll remember the suffering Your love put You through
And I will go through the valley if You want me to

'Cause when I cross over Jordan, I'm gonna sing, I'm gonna shout,
I'll look into Your eyes and see You never let me down.
So take me on the pathway that leads me home to You,
And I will walk through the valley if You want me to.

    Jesus Will Still Be There
Robert Sterling and John Mandeville (C) 1993 Word Music

    Things change, plans fail,
You look for love on a grander scale.
    Storms rise, hopes fade,
And you place your bets on another day.
When the going gets tough, when the ride's too rough,
When you're just not sure enough...

Jesus will still be there, His love will never change,
    Sure as the steady rain.
Jesus will still be there, when no one else is true,
    He'll still be loving you.
When it looks like you've lost it all,
And you haven't got a prayer,
    Jesus will still be there.

    Time flies, hearts turn,
A little bit wiser from lessons learned.
    But sometimes weakness wins,
And you lose your foothold once again.

When it looks like you've lost it all,
And you haven't got a prayer,
    Jesus will still be there.

    Mercy Reigns
Shane Barnard (C) 2003 Waiting Room Music

She hides her face it seems too good
For Your embrace to find her
And say "My dove, Your voice is sweet,
Show me Your form... Your form is lovely."

Your mercy reigns, Your mercy comes,
Your mercy falls, it rises with the sun.
    It's new every morning...
    It's good enough for me.

No ear has heard a melody
As sweet as Yours for her.
It seems too good, so undeserved,
My heart faints now, for we are her!

Your mercy reigns, Your mercy comes,
Your mercy falls, it rises with the sun.
    It's new every morning...
    It's good enough for me.

I will abide in Your love!

You about running out, Joshua? Didn't know there were 25 much less 100 that had ANY value in the lyrics.

    Bro. Dr. Bob,

Thanks. I haven't checked out the other thread yet, as it's been a hectic last couple of weeks. If I have anything to offer in the Civil War thread, which I don't think off-hand that I do, I'll speak up. Otherwise I'll just read and enjoy it for a change. Thanks for following this thread. I believe there ARE 100, and even more, Christian songs that are worth mentioning. God bless. [IMG]

    Day Thirty

    Root of it All
Chuck Dennie and Phil Joel (C) 2003 Open Worship Music

All of our fashions have faded, each generation has been here before.
How do we get so jaded? Break this cloud that we're on,
Let it rain, let it pour!

When all is said and all is done, will we turn our face to the Son?

Get back to the root of it all,
Jesus is calling us to the love of a Father!
Get back to the root of it all,
Jesus is calling us to love one another!

This world and all of its treasures pull in tight, chase the wind,
Lose our grip, break the fall.
Love will transcend through the ages,
Darkness cannot survive with the break of the dawn!

When all is said and all is done, will we turn our face to the Son?

Get back to the root of it all,
Jesus is calling us to the love of a Father!
Get back to the root of it all,
Jesus is calling us to love one another!

Take me back again to the place where we first met,
    I know I can't save myself.
Grace is here for free, faith is something we cannot see,
I know it's time to lay it down.

Get back to the root of it all,
Jesus is calling us to the love of a Father!
Get back to the root of it all,
Jesus is calling us to love one another!

Day Thirty-One - A song about the uncertanity of the future. A truly human struggle, all of us have at times wrestled with the unknown next step, balanced against the safe and known place we've been. I believe this is a very poignant lyric, and spoken as a prayer to the Father, can be a question, request, or confession all at the same time.

    Painting Pictures of Egypt
Sara Groves (C) 2000 Sara Groves

    I don’t want to leave here, I don’t want to stay;
It feels like pinching to me either way.
The places I long for the most are the places where I’ve been,
They are calling after me like a long lost friend.

    It’s not about losing faith, it’s not about trust;
It’s all about comfortable when you move so much.
The place I was wasn’t perfect but I had found a way to live,
It wasn’t milk or honey, but then neither is this.

I’ve been painting pictures of Egypt,
    Leaving out what it lacked.
The future seems so hard and I want to go back.
But the places that used to fit me cannot hold the things I"ve learned,
And those roads closed off to me while my back was turned.

The past is so tangible; I know it by heart.
Familiar things are never easy to discard.
I was dying for some freedom but now I hesitate to go,
Caught between the promise and the things I know.

I’ve been painting pictures of Egypt,
    Leaving out what it lacked.
The future seems so hard and I want to go back.
But the places that used to fit me cannot hold the things I"ve learned,
And those roads closed off to me while my back was turned.

If it comes too quick I may not recognize it.
Is that the reason behind all this time and sand?
If it comes too quick I may not appreciate it.
Is that the reason behind all this time and sand?

Day Thirty-Two - Posted early for Friday, this is another story song. Like Moses, this tells a specific story from a specific point of view.

    He's Alive!
Don Francisco (C) 1977 New Pax Music

The gates and doors were barred and all the windows fastened down.
I spent the night in sleeplessness and rose at every sound.
Half in hopeless sorrow, and half in fear the day
Would find the soldiers breakin' through to drag us all away.

And just before the sunrise, I heard something at the wall.
The gate began to rattle and a voice began to call.
I hurried to the window; looked down into the street,
Expecting swords and torches and the sound of soldier's feet.

But there was no one there but Mary, so I went down to let her in.
John stood there beside me as she told me where she'd been.
She said, "They've moved Him in the night and none of us knows where!
The stone's been rolled away, and now his body isn't there!"

We both ran toward the garden, then John ran on ahead,
We found the stone and empty tomb just the way that Mary said.
But the winding sheet they wrapped him in was just an empty shell,
And how or where they'd taken Him was more than I could tell.

Oh something strange had happened there, just what I did not know,
John believed a miracle, but I just turned to go.
Circumstance and speculation couldn't lift me very high,
'Cause I'd seen them crucify Him, then I saw Him die.

Back inside the house again, the guilt and anguish came:
Everything I'd promised Him just added to my shame.
When at last it came to choices, I denied I knew His name!
And even if He was alive it wouldn't be the same.

But suddenly the air was filled with a strange and sweet perfume.
Light that came from everywhere drove shadows from the room.
And Jesus stood before me with His arms held open wide,
And I fell down on my knees and I just clung to Him and cried.

Then He raised me to my feet and as I looked into his eyes
Love was shining out from Him like sunlight from the skies.
Guilt and my confusion disappeared in sweet release,
And every fear I'd ever had just melted into peace.

    He's alive! He's alive!
    He's alive and I'm forgiven,
    Heaven's gates are open wide!

Day Thirty-Three - Posted early for Saturday.

    Where the Nails Were
Gary Driskell and Marty Dennis (C) 1994 Word Music

"Father, forgive them," I heard Him faintly say.
Still, in my heart I feel so guilty.
I know the truth is, the debt was mine to pay.
How could it be right that it happened this way?
A fallen and sinful life I was leading,
Now, why is Your body torn and bleeding?

It should've been my hands, where the nails were, it should have been.
It should've been my feet, where the nails were, it should have been.
It should have been my side that was opened, my heart that was broken.
It should've been my hands, it should've been my feet, where the nails were.

At times I am tempted to overlook Your grace
Thinkins I'm worth the love You've given.
I walk like I'm earning the right to run the race,
Somehow forgetting You died in my place.
Still it isn't long before I've stumbled,
One look at the cross and I am humbled.

It should've been my hands, where the nails were, it should have been.
It should've been my feet, where the nails were, it should have been.
It should have been my side that was opened, my heart that was broken.
It should've been my hands, it should've been my feet, where the nails were.

    Day Thirty-Four

    Legacy
Nichole Nordeman (C) 2002 Ariose Music

I don't mind if you've got something nice to say about me,
And I enjoy an accolade like the rest.
And you could take my picture and hang it in a gallery
Of all the Who's Who's and So-and-so's that used to be the best at such-and-such,
    It wouldn't matter much.

I won't lie, it feels alright to see your name in lights.
We all need an "atta boy" or "atta girl."
But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besides
The temporary trappings of this world.

I want to leave a legacy; how will they remember me?
Did I choose to love? Did I point to you enough
To make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering:
A child of mercy and grace who blessed your name unapologetically,
And leave that kind of legacy.

Don't have to look too far or too long awhile,
To make a lengthy list of all that I enjoy.
It's an accumulating trinket and a teasure pile
Where moth and rust, theives and such will soon enough destroy.

I want to leave a legacy; how will they remember me?
Did I choose to love? Did I point to you enough
To make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering:
A child of mercy and grace who blessed your name unapologetically,
And leave that kind of legacy.

    Not well-traveled, not well-read,
    Not well-to-do, or well bred.
Just want to hear instead "Well done, good and faithful one!"

I don't mind if you've got something nice to say about me.
