12 Year Old Tamir Rice STILL not Buried 5 Months Later

Okay, I'm still confused here - even wiki said he was buried in December but the more I think about it, the more I think the family is probably saying that they can't afford a decent headstone. NBC, CBS, and all of them covered the funeral and Tamir's body was in the casket.

Either that, or somebody is lying here but there is no reason to fake a funeral or say there was no funeral when some of us remember the one all over the news. Very poorly stated in any event.

There were definitely funeral services; but the mounting evidence says they decided not to bury him.

In a court filing, lawyers for the Rice family said the Cuyahoga County sheriff's office, which took over the case from Cleveland city police in January, has yet to contact the boy's parents and relatives.

"Because it is unknown whether there may need to be an additional medical examination, the body of Tamir Rice has not been put to rest," it added.

Edited to add:
Frankly, it's weird. The family decided not to bury him, with no indication the police or anyone might need the body for anything. It's pretty clear what happened; so further examination of the body doesn't seem like it would provide any new information. So I can't really figure out why they don't just do it....

Investigation aside, no one is saying that the boy can't be buried, that I can find. It's the family's decision to not bury him, because they think he might be exhumed for the investigation. The family is incurring the $75/day cost. No one is making them do this.

Any speculation as to why is just that - speculation. There are a number of reasons they might be doing this. The two most prominent are:

1. The reason stated - that they are afraid his body might be exhumed later for the investigation. I see this as unreasonable. The coroner has already examined him, and the shooting was caught on tape. What need would there be for further examination of the body?

2. Public sympathy - they may have been advised by their lawyer to not bury him, in order to gain sympathy for the investigation. It may have been delayed just for these articles to appear now, and keep the story in the public eye.

Either way, it's ridiculous that he's not been buried yet. But, honestly, it was their call, not anyone else's call. They are incurring the fee on themselves. No one is pushing it on them.

I was just reading that too Sapper. It's just stupid at this point to not have buried that child just because you think they are gonna exhume the body.

All things considered, I'd think it would be in the city's best interest to waive any accruing fees for obvious reasons.

I don't retract anything, my question is if the family decided not to bury him, where is this casket now?:

and why isn't he buried after all that ceremony?

there was already an autopsy and they have the money for the funeral:

there's something more to this.

You can often times lease a casket just for the showing. Families who cremate their loved ones often do this.

It appears that they just don't want to have to dig the body back up after they bury him. Nobody was expecting the police investigation to take 6 months.

So yeah, there is something more to this. They could have written a new set of World Book Encyclopedias in 6 months. It doesn't take that long to write up an investigation for a call and a shooting.
