I don't need to be good at managing money. I will just elect politicians who will take your hard-earned money and give it to me!

It strikes me as odd that you would be laughing at your financial situation.

Gallows humour?

I'm actually laughing at Carpro, and his false claims.

I dunno... since you do not believe that it is possible for a family to live on one income I have to wonder if he is not right.

Such a lack of confidence would naturally be a result of a lack of something in the area of finances.

You have a wonderful gift of assuming things others don't say. I never said a family could not live on one income. I stated that it depended on the amount of the income. Surely even you can see that this is true.

Then the comment was made that more than two dollars a day in wages is not poverty. Curtis comes to bat then and agrees.

If you think a family can live on the income of one worker who makes minimum wage, I disagree. This was my point. However you, as usual twist things to make it look like I believe something I don't believe.

Do you believe a family can live on one minimum wage income without any outside help?

Actually you said something different in post 3 of this thread.

Reproduced as follows:

targus said:
A family could still live on one income - if they were to be willing to do it like they used to - by not overspending and growing some of their own food - one car only - no cell phones (especially no cell phones for the kids) - pass clothes down through a couple of kids - etc.

Even you cannot be ignorant enough as to actually believe this!

Nice try though.

Your reading skills leave much to be desired.

You are not even close on the above.

No, this is the first that you even mentioned minimum wage in the context of a family living on one income.

No - but that hasn't been the discussion to this point.

Are you trying to change it in an attempt to dig yourself out of your hole?

Define "live." Everyone who isn't dead is living. I knew a lady who lived under a freeway. She held down a job but couldn't stand sleeping under a roof in a building and didn't like to be around people. She had a night janitor job.

An old paramour of yours perhaps? :love2:

Didn't you read the OP before responding?

The amount bw asked about in his OP was $21,000. I took it from your answers that you believe no one could live on that amount.

Don't you ever get tired of running backwards?

Could you live on $21,000 a year?

Of course families in America that only earn $21,000 a year don't live on just $21,000 a year - because of subsidies and wealth transfers.

Getting back to your original position - you said that it ignorant to believe that a family could live on a single income.

The $21,000 figure is just more of trying to cover your tracks.

You made no such qualification in your original declaration.

What subsidies and wealth transfers are you thinking about. Also define wealth transfer for me.

Of course, if they have a couple of kids, they get approximately an aditional $5000 a year in tax credits over and above what they pay in taxes, along with food stamps.

I just thought that I would share this very insightful private message that Robert Snow was so kind to send to me this morning.

I thought it important to reproduce his message here because it brings his very unique and valuable perspective to the discussion and that perhaps we could all learn something from it.

targus, I notice you failed to answer Robert's question. :tonofbricks:

Typical, try and change the subject and blame someone else when faced with a hard question.

(hopefull deliberate sarcasm noticeable)

What hard question was that?

Do you mean - could I live on $21,000 per year?

I believe so - I have gotten by with far less in the past.

But why would someone want to do so?

What is missing in Robert Snow's view is the concept of self improvement, risk taking and hard work.
