I tried. He looked really wary and said he was happy outside. He liked the bird seed.
We have deer go through our backyard on an almost daily basis. Usually at sundown and sunrise. The fact that this guy is standing there in broad daylight makes me think there are people feeding the deer in your neighborhood (and not just bird seed). That deer seems to be fearless.
I once had a deer eating some plants immediately outside our sliding glass patio door. I slowly, carefully, grabbed my camera and was in position to take a great shot of him. But when I turned on the camera it made its "beep" noise to indicate power up, the deer heard the beep and shot out of our yard.

He was actually really skittish and he kept watching us and backing up while we were slowly walking to the back door. But we have a BUNCH of deer around here and while they are super skittish, because we're suburban, they end up close to you pretty frequently. But I have to say this is the closest we've had one to our door. I think part of it was that I put a pumpkin outside cut in half because the squirrels love it and I discovered that it was eaten - not just the seeds but the whole pumpkin and I imagine it was the deer. The pumpkin was put out just about where he was in this picture.
Exactly. My son sneezed and he ran. LOL
Craziest thing. We had 8" last Thursday into Friday. Had to snowblow the driveway and it was so dangerous. We went sledding on Saturday and were ticked because the hotel we meet in on Sunday didn't plow their parking lot. We have a handicapped young man at our church and he had a hard time getting inside. But Sunday night into Monday, it was 57 degrees and all the snow was gone by Monday morning - just before we hit the deep freeze. When I took the picture of the deer, it was 7 degrees outside.
I have neighbors who weren't very happy about deer eating their flowers. I live in an RV park surrounded by wilderness. We have coyotes, bobcats, and deer, although I haven't seen any of them; I hear the coyotes every night.
We also have a lot of quail and rabbits. If I had a large freezer and a way of hunting them (deer, rabbits, and quail), a lot of them might come up missing. I'm not the hunting type, but I LOVE venison. Of course, it depends on what they eat as to how tender and moist they are. Deer that live near farms and feast on corn are very tender with very moist and delicious meat. Deer that live in the wilderness and feed on whatever they can find generally have a much drier, tougher, and less tasty meat.

We drove to church a batch of weeks back and followed an SUV with a basket on the back with a dead deer. My son was frothing at the mouth.....
