Hi Carson,
just a note to clarify my previous post. On a thread dealing with sources of authority, are Catholics encouraged to view the Catholic church as authoritative? Had you been a Catholic in Hungary in 1940, would you have felt free to say, "the united synod of bishops, my Catholic press, local priest and Cardinal are all pushing for the exclusion and isolating of my Jewish neighbours, quoting church fathers, councils and popes to back them up, but as a Catholic, I know that Jesus said to love our neighbour, so the official and unified voice of my church must be wrong." Do your beliefs alow you to say that church councils sinned in their declarations, or is a church council ruling always right? Where is your final authority?
