Only some Hispanics are white people. There is no correlation between race and Hispanic origin.
This seems to be a confusing issue for a lot of folks. They want to see Hispanics as Mexican, Guatemalan, Cuban, etc. Really, just like the United States, there is no such thing. The peoples that make up those nations are a conglomeration of peoples from all over the world who moved to that area once upon a time, and adopted the local Hispanic culture. Yes, over time, they have intermarried and formed a quasi people group, with distinct features and genetics, etc., but in reality, they are a mix of distinct ethnicities who "moved in" during the colonization period, intermingled with the natives, and are now a people.
This tends to get off the subject just a bit, but for the sake of example, ever notice how similar Mexican music is to German music (polka influence)? Or, how similar Mexican beers are to German beers? That is because a German contingent immigrated to Mexico between 1845 and 1950. They brought with them their brewing and cheese making expertise, and some of what we consider "Mexican" is in fact German culture! Cuba was influenced by the spendy American (and now, world) tourism contingent, which brought money and culture to an island paradise. Their cooking styles, dress, etc., are all vastly different from other Hispanic nations. Their similarity is their use of the Spanish language. Other major people groups that were "imported" to Hispanic regions were the various peoples of Africa, which are themselves distinct in their tribal heritage, but they have blended into the population at large in many areas south of the American border.
In working with a number of persons considered "Hispanic" by most American demographic tests, I've worked and built relationships with persons from all over Central and South America. Their culture is distinct. Even their language is regional with dialects distinctly different from region and people group to some other place. They tend to scale their people like we do coffee... Light, medium, dark, and do so without casting aspersions as to the actual ethnicity of the person (or so it seems from my vantage point).
