24 Million dollar death award.

About a year ago - a man, Robert Brooks died as a prison inmate - in the Greater Syracuse, NY; area.
Brooks, from Greece, New York, was 35 years old in 2017 when he was sentenced to 12 years in state prison along with four-year post-release supervision for stabbing his long-time girlfriend, 34-year-old Diana Rivera, in the chest, neck, side, and back.

The Brooks family has just been awarded a 24 million dollar settlement.

What I would like to know is how much of that 24 million will be given to Diana Rivera, the ex-girlfriend???

Do you think the Brooks family owes her anything?

Absolutely! She is the true victim in all of it, and although his death was at the hands of
some rabid deputies, at least half of that should go to her for her pain and suffering.

I am retired LE. Through the years, I saw so many cases where the woman started the fight and the man simply won it. I think domestic violence is about a 33 33 33 proposition. A third of the time the man is the problem, a third of the time the time the woman is the problem, and a third of the time they are both the problem.

Legally, you are correct - but to me it appears they are trying to forget the violence against the ex girlfriend.
and yes, Reynolds is correct - sometimes the female is the abuser.
Again - it would be nice to have the entire story -

I have no idea what happened in that particular case.
I can tell I worked a very similar case. I arrested a woman 3 times for domestic violence. One time she hit her husband with a frying pan. One time she cut him. One time she stabbed him. The fourth time I answered a call there, he shot and killed her.

That or it just puts NY State further into debt!
