Indeed! Where in the book of Jonah, “does it say Jesus would rise on the third day?” “It is written”, we say! Is it, “written”? It is not written!— but for the eye of FAITH; an eye created by God; created in mercy; that sees: It is “written in the PROPHETS”! The Scriptures come alive, spring up like lambs of the flock, and open like the lilies of the field. Faith is the Water of Life whereby on earth, the Scriptures witness— witness of Christ Jesus “the Water of Life”— “written”, in the Book of Life the Word of God “the Scriptures”. “Holding the Head, the Body by JOINTS AND BANDS having ministered nourishment, and KNIT TOGETHER, increaseth with the increase of God’s” WORD, The Scriptures! “There are three that bear witness in earth: the Spirit (of Christ) and the Water (of the Word, the Scriptures), and the blood (of the witness of the saints).

So, from a far “stretch except that Jesus personally taught that” it is written in Jonah that He “would rise on the third day”, we got to where He the Head and us, the Body, are closely “knit” and “joined together” through Scriptures, “explicitly” the Passover of Yahweh Scriptures of the “three days and three nights” Christ would be “in the heart of the earth”.

Then EVEN HERE in Matthew 12:40 by the mouth of Jesus himself, it is not ‘written’, “rise on the third day”; but it is SAID as by the Word of God!

Paul came, afterwards, and he confirmed, “Christ according to the SCRIPTURES, ROSE, from the dead”. And that is how “ALL the Scriptures” – even Old AND New Testament Scriptures should be understood by FAITH, that they ALL witness of the Christ; that He “after three days”, “the third day”, would RISE FROM THE DEAD AGAIN; and that “God … to us … by His SON … in these last days have spoken … THUS: God the Seventh Day from ALL his works, RESTED!”

In this word, “God rested”, again, it is not in so may words written, ‘Jesus rose from the dead’. No, it is IN TRUTH written that God in Christ “rested” in that “Christ the third day according to the Scriptures ROSE”, and that He (Paul’s use of Ellipsis again) “the third day according to the Scriptures” “FROM THE DEAD, rose”. Therefore, when it is written “God RESTED”, it is as good as it was written “Christ rose from the dead the third day according to the Scriptures”, and the ‘according to the Scriptures’ is as good as Jesus said “I am the Alpha and the Omega”, and “The Beginning of the creation of God”.

Jesus Christ, “the all in all fulfilling fullness of God.”

So that the PROPHET Isaiah NO LESS PROPHESIED of the Christ of God’s PASSOVER-“resting-UP” “after three days”* where ‘it is written’,
57:15,
“For thus saith the High and Lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose Name is the Most Holy Place: I dwell in The Innermost Sanctuary WITH HIM of utter contrite and humble spirit, to REVIVE the life of The Humble One and to REST-UP the heart of The Contrite of the contrite.”

“HIS NAME IS: HOLY OF HOLIES” or “Most Holy” or “Most Holy Place”— “The Innermost Sanctuary” of Jesus’ own Person and Being and recreated glorified body in the grave in the earth where and when and AS “in the Full Fellowship” of God the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, “Christ rose”!— “This Jesus hath God raised … HIM … whom ye have taken and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.”

(* “After three days” –Ablative meaning “on the third and last day”– the “three days and three night” of “the PROPHET Jonas”!)

Now, of this “resting-UP” and “reviving” of Christ, whereby and wherein God from all his works “rested” in that He therein and thereby “finished”, Paul often as the exaltation and enthronement of Christ speaks. So also Peter, and David the prophet, who “himself saith, “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit Thou on my right hand. … Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made THAT SAME Jesus whom ye have crucified, BOTH LORD AND CHRIST.”

WHERE, WHEN, and HOW?

1) By, and in, and through, that God “RAISED … quickened … revived” Him— raised, quickened, revived Him “FROM, the dead … having loosed the pains of death”— THERE, and THEN, and THUS!

2) By, and in, and through, that God “EXALTED Him” having “raised Him” and “quickened Him” and “revived Him “FROM the DEAD … TO SIT ON HIS THRONE”, “FROM … having loosed the PAINS OF DEATH”, “THEREFORE, being by the RIGHT HAND OF GOD, EXALTED”! From the grave in the earth onto the throne “in heavenly Majesty” in one moment, in one sanctuary, in one “Offering” in One “Sheaf” in one “wave”, “before the LORD”— “on the third day”, “the third day” of the Passover of Yahweh. Ja, and let us not forget to put “The Passover of Yahweh” in quotation marks because every word of it is the Passover of Yahweh Scriptures, quoted.

So by THESE TWO ASPECTS of the one act and Word of God – “raised”, and, “exalted” –, “God … by His Son … the Seventh Day from all his works RESTED”. “For God, THUS … at sundry times and in divers manners in times past by the prophets, spake”— “spake” of Christ’s RESURRECTION, “ON THE THIRD DAY ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES”.

God’s ultimate “rest from all his works”, is Jesus Christ BUT, Jesus Christ in RESURRECTION: FROM: THE DEAD: THE THIRD DAY!

That makes it comprehensible what Paul exclaimed: “THAT YE MAY KNOW!” “….that ye may know what is the EXCEEDING GREATNESS of God’s power to us-ward who believe according to the WORKING of his mighty, power, which He WROUGHT / ACCOMPLISHED / FINISHED / TRIUMPHED IN, IN CHRIST, _WHEN HE RAISED_ HIM FROM THE DEAD, _AND, SET_ HIM AT HIS OWN RIGHT HAND IN HEAVENLY EXALTATION.”

No, don’t re-write any of the capitalized words in small letters! Better write them all in blazing letters of fire and life and spirit of TRUTH AND FULFILLMENT OF GOD’S WORDS AND WORKS, “ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES”!

I have tried to show, No, it's ALL the Scriptures, the passover-Scriptures, "specifically" (was the word I think you used, Dr Walter, or something like it). And the HEART of the passover-Scriptures – in the Old Testament – is Exodus 10 to 15!

In other words, Jesus in Mt12:40 MORE refers to and applies the fact of "the PROPHET Jonas" on Himself than the fact of "three days and three nights" BECAUSE it not merely is "three days and three nights" (at random)— it is the fact of THE, "three days and three nights" of ALL the Scriptures about the Passover of Yahweh in and through Jesus Christ.

Well, I believe it is three days and three nights. I do not believe Christ died on Friday as that is but two nights at the most and a little over one full day at the most by the stretch of the greatest imagination.

I say one thing at a time, this is the first issue as far as I am concerned, that unless CLEARLY resolved, NO further debating could go on.

We have this sure foundation under the feet of both of us. It is a sure foundation ONLY because it in fact IS: “according to the Scriptures”! For EVERY fact mentioned in these words, DIRECT ‘Scripture’ exists and can be quoted exactly, ‘literally’… EXCEPT for one ‘item’, which is the ‘literalness’ and ‘exactness’ of HOW --- in what manner and sense --- “He partook of the passover”. But because this ‘question’ not directly influences the count of the “three days”, we may for now first leave our attempts at a more detailed explanation of it.

But no sooner had this foundation been laid or the next dilemma comes to the fore. Now everything said there, applies here, where I want to point out Dr Walter's specific statement,

Which dissection of Dr Walter’s of course does violence to the Scriptures’ CLEAR WORDS of both “THE third day” upon which Jesus would rise from the dead, and the “three days and three nights” OF THESE, “according-to-the-SCRIPTURES’” “three days and three nights”. The “three days and three nights” were the “three days and three nights” OF THESE, “according-to-the-SCRIPTURES”-“three days”— the “three days” of the Passover-of-Yahweh-Scriptures, the BIBLE-“fourteenth-”, “fifteenth-”, and “sixteenth”, -“days”, “OF THE FIRST MONTH” / “Aviv” / “Nisan”. “OBSERVE THE MONTH OF AVIV” is the Scriptures. The DATES! Not arbitrary, any FALSE three days and arbitrary, any FALSE three nights of any arbitrary, FALSE “placed in the grave”- ‘days’!

Then to top the falsities withal, where the Scriptures speak of ALL IN ALL “three days”, to involve FIVE days, namely, three days “in the grave” PLUS the day BEFORE them on which Jesus was crucified and killed, PLUS the day AFTER them on which He rose from the grave.

The seventeenth was the day AFTER “the day after the sabbath” (Lv23:11,15) which was the “sixteenth day … of the First Month” (2Chr29:17) of the “according to its SEASON” (Lv23:4) YEARLY passover. "Thou shalt bring the First Sheaf and wave it before the LORD on the day after the sabbath..." OF THE PASSOVER. Not the 'normal Seventh Day Sabbath'.

Not Matthew or Jonah speaks of ‘evening’; they say and they mean, “night”: ‘night’ or ‘darkness’ in contrast with the SAME ‘day’s’, ‘day’ or ‘light’-part: “treis hehmeras kai treis nuktas”, ‘yamim’ and ‘yalil’ in Hebrew. Neither of Matthew, the Hebrew or the LXX uses ‘opsia’ or ‘ereb’.

Seeing “he remained in the grave … the day of the 14th”, it means He was crucified and died DURING THE DARKNESS OF NIGHT.

“…the evening of the 15th”, “and the day of the 14th” together do not make any “day” of the “three days” “according to the Scriptures”— they do not make the fourteenth or the fifteenth day of the First Month. They are the merciless, contrary the Law yoking together of the ox and the ass.

“…the evening of the 16th”, “and the day of the 15th” together do not make any “day” of the “three days”— neither the fifteenth nor the sixteenth day of the First Month. Assimilated they become the coldblooded cooking and eating together of blood and milk.

“the evening of the 17th”, “and the day of the 16th” do not together make any “day” of the “three days”— of either the sixteenth and the seventeenth days or dates of the First Month. Blended together they constitute the forced and unholy marriage of Israelite and Philistine.

“Hear now this, ye that oppress The Poor in the morning and drive The Needy by tyranny from the earth (that is, KILL Him), saying, When will the month (“ye shall observe the month of Aviv”, “Passover of Yahweh”) be over and we shall sell, and the sabbaths of the (passover’s feast of unleavened bread) that we shall open the treasury to make the measure small and to enlarge the weight and make the balance unfair? “The day after the sabbath” referred to in Lv23:11,15 refers to THIS, ‘sabbath day’, the first “sabbath” of the passover of the month of Aviv and of the Feast of Unleavened Bread: “the sabbath” of and on, “the fifteenth day of the First Month”, the second day and the second night the second day of the “three days and three nights” that Jesus said he would be “in the heart of the earth”.

And “the VERY first day” of the passover BEFORE this first ‘sabbath’ and “first day ye shall eat unleavened bread” on, was “the day they removed leaven on”, “the first day they killed the passover (sacrifice). Lk22:7 Mk14:12 Mt26:17— “the first day ye shall REMOVE leaven”, Ex12:15b and 15a— "the fourteenth day of the First Month", 'night and day'… the first day and the first night the first day of the “three days and three nights” that Jesus said he would be “in the heart of the earth”.

So, yes, Jesus arose “PRIOR to 6 am.” Sunday morning— a full FIFTEEN hours PRIOR “on Sabbath mid in the afternoon”. Quite right! And hence, He was in the grave since Joseph CLOSED the grave…

1) “…that day The Preparation”,
2) “…that day The Preparation as it began to dawn towards the Sabbath”, “sabbaton epephohsken”, “mid-afternoon”,
3) “…that day The Preparation” … “by the time of the Jews’ preparations” for the Sabbath…

Hence, He was in the grave for EXACTLY TWENTY FOUR HOURS.

Luke 23:54 John 19:43, Mt28:1.

No Scriptures exist that could tell differently or WOULD, tell differently.

Why?
Because:

1) BEFORE, the passover showed it.
“On the first day ye shall kill the passover”; “It pleased the LORD to bruise Him”; “He bare the sins of many … and poured out his soul unto death”— “on the FOURTEENTH day of the First Month.”
“The very first / the first, first / the chief first day”, “He poured out his soul” and LIFE : “UNTO death”, “through his blood”, “by the sacrifice of Himself : Aviv 14!

2) And AFTER, the Anointed and Passover of Yahweh
“according to the Scriptures” “on the FIFTEENTH day of the First Month” and “first day ye shall eat unleavened bread”, “made his grave with the wicked and with the rich … and was numbered with the transgressors” alike, another statistic buried and forgotten “IN HIS DEATH”.

Aviv 15… “The first day ye shall EAT (assimilate) unleavened (without soul or leaven, lifeless) bread, WITH the flesh without” but the bitterness of death and corruptibility (lifeless flesh), “He in his DEATH made his grave”…Aviv 15!

“THAT NIGHT” was the ONLY “night … he was in the grave”, in total. As with the Antitype, so was it with the types. “Thou shalt show Thy Son in THAT DAY saying, This is done because of what the LORD had done unto Me when I came out of Egypt. … Ye shall carry up my bones AWAY HENCE with you.” Ex14:8,19. “Ye shall let nothing of it remain … and that which remaineth of it … THIS NIGHT … until the morning ye shall burn with fire.” 12:10,12.

Therefore what the Scriptures say is TRUE: that Jesus was “as Jonas was, three days and three nights in the HEART of the earth”; and what Dr Walter avers, that “he was in the grave three nights”, is NOT true.

The above scripture says as Jonas was 3 days and 3 nights in the whales belly, and so shall Jesus be 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth. Does good Friday afternoon till (easter) Sunday morning equal 3 days and 3 nights? No it does not.

MARK 16 [1] And WHEN THE SABBATH WAS PAST, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

These women bought sweet spices AFTER the sabbath was past.

These same women prepared spices and then rested the sabbath day, according to the commandment (Gods 4th commandment) How could these women prepare spices and rest the sabbath if they didnt buy spices till after the sabbath had past? There had to be two sabbath days that week.

These 2 scriptures from John are proof that the first of these sabbaths was the high sabbath. There is a sabbath on the 1st day of the feast of unleavened bread.

LEVITICUS 23 [5] In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Lord's passover. [6] And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. [7] In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

After the passover, in the 1st day of unleavened bread, there is a high sabbath day. No one saw the Lord rise. When they discovered He had risen, it was Sunday (the 1st day of the week) but no one was present when He rose from the dead. If you believe the sign of Jonas and the scripture from Matt.12 you must believe He rose on a late sabbath afternoon 3 days and 3 nights after Jesus was placed in the heart of the earth. He was placed in tomb before sundown as at sundown began the sabbath as stated in John 19[31].

Yes, this a very intelligent and important question!

The answer is, TWO DATES ARE given-- both 14 and 15 of the First Month.

It is EASY to understand, keeping in mind Exodus recorded the very first 'exodus' FROM OUT OF UNDER THE OLD DISPENSATION UNDER PAGAN AND HEATHEN RULE. Therefore Exodus uses the FOURTEENTH ONLY to date the WHOLE passover. But remember that the previous chapters FORETELL “THREE days thick darkness” of the LAST, TWO, plagues, which were, the ninth plague of the three days darkness to follow; and of the death of the firstborn.

The date of the FOURTEENTH is stated as having been the day of the death of the firstborn AS WELL as of the “GOING OUT”.

Afterwards, throughout, the FIFTEENTH is given for the day of departure OUT.

Therefore CHANGE in the dating was made later on. Because then the NEW era had had begun.

Under the old dispensation – pre-exodus – the day was reckoned according to PAGANISM: sunrise to sunrise. Under the new dispensation, days were from SUNSET TO SUNSET.

So the LAST and night halve of the thirteenth day BECAME the FIRST and night halve of the fourteenth day – “the first day they killed the passover”, but during its last and daylight halve. So is it in all other places where the day that the passover was killed is mentioned.

According to Exodus therefore, the passover was BOTH KILLED AND EATEN on the fourteenth day; and according to the rest of ALL the Scriptures the passover was “killed / kept” on the fourteenth, BUT was “eaten / ‘feasted’” and RE-ASSIMILATED WITH THE DUST OF THE EARTH— BURIED on the fifteenth! --- ‘Buried’, BOTH by eating of “THE FLESH”, and the burning of “THAT WHICH REMAINED with fire”. And note that these facets of the passover’s “Feast”, BEGAN “that NIGHT” BEFORE “midnight”, and ended next DAY when at Succot, long enough before sunset so that Israel from Succot after having eaten the first unleavened cakes, could have moved on to Pihahiroth on the shore of the Red Sea. Note the SIMILARITIES in Israel's experience at Pihahiroth and Jonas' experience in the belly of the fish.

The possibility of it all is BELIEVED through faith in the omnipotence of God who “carried” Israel ‘in his arms’, out of Egypt. JUST LIKE God “carried” Jesus through his suffering, dying and death and resurrection ‘in his arms’, and in whole can be believed through faith in the omnipotence of God only, who raised Christ from “the heart of the earth” AND the grave, “on the third day” of “the plague (that) was upon Him”, “the sixteenth day of the First Month”. So did God through Christ “FINISH CLEANSING OF THE SANCTUARY”, 2Chr29:17, to fulfill the words of “the PROPHET Jonas”, “as Jonas was in the HEART of the earth (figurative language) three days and three nights (literal language), so shall the Son of Man be in the HEART of the earth (figurative language) three days and three nights (literal language).”

To begin with your last remark, with which you with your use of the capital letters, imply a TOTAL falsity, because the expression “AFTER THREE DAYS” without ANY doubt, is an Ablative with the EXACT same meaning of the SEVERAL other references to “THE THIRD day”, “ON the third day” and “IN three days”, using the Dative.

You cannot create the rules of the Greek language; from where are you?

Mark 8:31 through the Ablative gives an idiomatic use of words which even in other languages is not uncommon or misunderstood. It’s only for theological agendas and readers seen for uninformed zombies, that Mark 8:31 gets abused as if all of a sudden the construct poses a linguistic challenge.

In any case, Matthew uses the Genitive, and literally quite correct translates: “OF three days and OF three nights” its God-given and therefore eschatological imperative WHOLENESS AND FULLNESS which as much as it is inclusive of the “three days”, is EXCLUSIVE of any other than the “three days” of the PROPHETIC “three days” “ON the third” of WHICH, “Christ rose again”.

This ‘literal’ is NO ‘literal’ usage of the words “after the third day” because the ‘literal’ meaning of the expression is IDIOMATIC FOR: “on the third day” or “the third day”. Your presumptuous abuse of this Scripture is an insult to the intelligence of those who might differ with your viewpoints of a fourth or even fifth day resurrection!
