4 books no Christian can live without

This book challenges the reader to re-think the american dream. As a result of God using this book I have donated far more to compassion International the the Bible League

2. Slave by John MacArthur--- Discover your true identity in Christ. Is life all about you pursuing your dreams? Or does life have a greater purpose? Who is your master? God, Satan, the world, or yourself?

3. One Minute after you die by Erwin Lutzer--- How will you spend eternity? Will you be in hell or heaven? What will hell or heaven be like? A most excellent book on individual eschatology and death.

4. Until Christ Returns by David Jeremiah-- A great read on how we should live our lives awaiting the return of Christ. Should we be spending all our time earning money to pay for our dream houses and cars? Should we be spending all our time working on the Lords day in our effort to be financially free? How should we live and what should we do as we await Christ's return, or our death?

Well...I would beg to differ with you Bro.Evangelist...I have read Bro.Platt's book and while it is good and I was challenged by it,My personal book list would be topped by the works of men like A.W.Tozer, Andrew Murray, John Bunyan, E.M.Bounds, F.J.Huegel, Spurgeon, and the more modern-day contemporary works of Florida Pastor James W.Knox, and Douglas Stauffer...oh yes..and who can forget the late Evangelist Oliver B.Greene! Truly though....if I had to be marooned somewhere and had to choose from a list of books that I could have with me there are only three(3) that I would feel lost and in total despair without. (#1)(and most importantly,my 1769 edition of the King James Bible (which IS faithful to the 1611 version minus the non-inspired apocrypha), (#2) Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, And last but not least(#3) Foxes Book of Martyrs!....and I guess if I was gonna be marooned for long it would also be nice to have Dwight Pentecost's book on Eschatology,"Things To Come"...to help keep my spirits up!:thumbs:
Truthfully....skip all of the above and just keep the Word of God! THAT is truly the ONLY one that we can't live without....the rest are just fallible works by sinners such as the rest of us and as such are subject to error. I'm all for reading and the more the better but we must remember to always weigh everything by God's Holy,Inspired,Perfect,Preserved and Infallible Word remembering that one day we will be judged by it!

Amen to that. But we are given men whom can teach for a reason. Read Romans 12 or 13 I believe about the body of Christ. Individualism is a lie, and the church needs to be united.

Oliver Greene is an interesting one. I used to listen to him all the time, but he was way too dogmatic, too opinionated on the KJV, etc.. I got sent the wrong message.

I agree with you, however God has gifted men to teach for a reason. The pastoral epistles speaks of this. Also Romans 12 or 13 speaks about the body of Christ.

I have read David Platt's Radical. It is an excellent read. I have heard of the others. I'll have to add them to my list of books to read after I finish this correspondence class Have you ever read Crazy Love by Francis Chan? It is also a great book.

:laugh:EXACTLY two of the main reasons I did and do still like Bro.Greene. His radio broadcasts still continue to this day thank God.(A classic example of "he being dead yet speaketh") Being Dogmatic is FINE when you get to the place you know you are right but that is a highly unappreciated position in this spineless "anything goes" culture of the lukewarm Laodicean church age in which we live. Neither is it much "in-vogue" to stand up and declare that you have a Bible in your hand that contains no proven errors. I like where I stand.....and I'm not the slightest bit concerned if others don't. Now that said...I AM concerned what my Lord thinks and I try to live my life in obedience to Him...though I know I fail miserably many times each day. That is just one reason why Heaven and being in His presence (probably sooner rather than later) will be so sweet!!

Yeah...."Pilgrim's Progress" is a must. I think no work of Christian Literature has or ever will top it. Bunyan's other book "The Holy War" was pretty good to.

Yes but the issue I had with him was he was too dogmatic about the KJV only issue. He was dogmatic but he lacked the apologetics intellect and research to back what he defends with facts. Han Hanegraaf for example recently wrote a excellent book entitle Has God spoken? Hanegraaf should be the one that can tell you what Bible translations are the best as he has studied the issue in depth. He prefers the NIV for good reason.

This is a foolish way to live. If you read the Bible correct you would know that God has given us teachers for a reason, and we have a body of Christ to edify and build each other up. We live in a day of Individualism and people often was to read the Bible and come to their mystical conclusions and then not read any books as their interpretation is correct, and they are holier than thou, because they only read the Bible and completely ignore what gifted teachers have to say.

That bears repeating.

Especially for those in debt and are looking for quick fixes and easy solutions to relieve themselves of their self induced slavery to their debtors to pay their obligations. Those chains really chafe when the lure of a good time calls, as Loreiei called from the rocks.

Additionally, we know what happened in 2008/2009 as the result of all those chasing "Golden Parachutes" on Wall Street. Can't help but wonder how many of those chasing that dream are now working two jobs to feed their families? Chances are that the author of that book isn't one of them.

The Bible is the only book that we truly need to guide our lives. Books with instructions on auto engine repairs, national electrical codes, laying tile, etc. are nice to have for reference. However, a skilled craftsman doesn't refer to them very often. The Bible should be the only book that we use for guidance every day for the rest of our lives.
