    Speaking of John R. Rice, I have looked at this thread and wracked my brain (a short process :smilewinkgrin: ), but I have to keep coming back to the same five, all by the same person. Go ahead, call me a Riceist!

    The Soul Winner's Fire, by John R. Rice
    The Power of Pentecost, or The Fullness of the Spirit, by John R. Rice
    Prayer: Asking And Receiving, by John R. Rice
    Our God-Breathed Book, the Bible, by John R. Rice
    The Home: Courtship, Marriage and Children, by John R. Rice.

    A couple of these I read 4-5 times, and I have outlined most of The Home into Japanese.

    If I had more than five choices I would add:
    In His Steps, by Charles Sheldon (the novel which produced the WWJD saying)
    Missionary Methods: St. Paul's or Ours? by Roland Allen
    Japan for Jesus, by Clifford Lewis
    The Greatest Thing in the World, by Henry Drummond (on 1 Cor. 13)
    The Holy Spirit: Who He Is and What He Does, by R. A. Torrey

    Speaking of the last one, why has no one mentioned any books on the Holy Spirit. I know you guys all must believe in the power of the Spirit.... And what about books on prayer? Has no one been influenced in that way? (I just noticed that our OP writer, thjplgvp, mentions Murray's book on prayer, but no one else has mentioned a book on prayer.)

    The Holy Spirit is active in Revival . I had mentioned L-J's book with that title . The other books I mentioned had prayer as a subject within the pages , though not devoting the whole to the topic .

    I had mentioned my 5 already -- but I wanted to list my next unit of five .

    Historical Theology -- William Cunningham

    The Voice Of Our Fathers -- Homer Hoeksema

    The Puritans -- Dr. L-J

    Christian Leaders Of The 18th Century -- J.C. Ryle

    Gleanings In The Godhead -- A.W. Pink

    If we are going beyond the five we were invited to list, then one might consider the book of sermons, Messages On Prayer, B.H. Carroll, or the classic book on The Holy Spirit, by John F. Walvoord, Dallas Theological Seminary.

    There are so many books on both prayer and the Holy Spirt, we could easily fill a page or two.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Well.....not sure what to say after all that. My list kinda looks rather small now. :(

    I guess I'll just eat my candy bar and not say anything more. :) :)

    Two works of fiction have influenced me;
    Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan (perhaps the first Christian book I read)
    Les Miserable by Victor Hugo

    One Biography;
    Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret by Dr and Mrs Howard Taylor

    And two special studies;
    A Christian View of Science and Scripture by Bernard Ramm (quite dated but it influence me tremendously)
    Decision Making and the Will of God by Garry Friesen

    five books.

    Or, the Scottish version five booooooks. Jim, which picture is you, or are you two folks?

    he he he he

    I do speak in tongues:

    Tongues of men: German (rusty) and standard English

    Tongues of angels: redneck southern, ya'll, hyah! (pronounced nasally as "heeya")

    When you get to the gate, prepared to welcomed by an angel drivin' a big 4x4 truck, saying, "Hey ya'll, get in back, we's goin up to the big house!":wavey:
