I was born in 1954 and so remember those days of 60s tv, black & white tv, watching from the back as the tv vacuum tubes started glowing, tall outside antennae that often needed adjusted, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Have Gun Will Travel, Walt Disney, The Rifleman, Get Smart, Ben Casey, Dr. Kildaire,....

Back in the day when writers were actually creative - didn’t need all the expletives, violence & immorality to create an interesting story line.
I am truly looking forward to the time when we have that global government the left wants so bad, BUT the Leader won’t be their choice.❤️

I love Gunsmoke butttt, Gunfights. Gambling. Saloon. Drinking. Hookers. Matt and Kitty. How wholesome is that show?

Andy Griffith show. Andy is a habitual liar. He lies about something in almost every episode.

True, but the big difference -IMHO- is that evil was portrayed as evil AND had negative consequences. Today it seems just the opposite: good is evil, evil is good, morality is against nature, immorality is healthy, & yada, yada, yada; always positive results of evil behavior!
I agree re: Andy's show!!:rolleyes::(

One example - Opie was trying to sell his bike, but did not mention the chain was bad. Andy told Opie he has to tell the buyer.

Then Andy want to sell his house, but does not tell the buyer of the shortfalls. He tries to explain to Opie that it is different for adults.

Andy finally realizes that he was wrong.

"The Andy Griffith Show" Barney Fife, Realtor (TV Episode 1965) - IMDb
That is one of the few where Andy admits the lie is wrong. He just usually nonchalantly tells them at convenience.

Gunsmoke actually does glorify the saloon girl/ prostitute lifestyle. There are several episodes that demean and make fun of people who disapprove of that lifestyle. Kitty is definitely not cast in a negative light.

Before my time. I did watch Bonanza and Gunsmoke (reruns), but grew up a decade later (Rockford Files, Barney Miller, Beretta, etc. ).

You don't list NBC. Was Bonanza-- which I consider the original quasi-western-- in its Sunday night time slot, 9-10 pm Eastern, by then?

Ed Sullivan was to that generation as Carson was on the Tonight Show to later ones!
