Some preterists try to assign 666 to Nero by various numbering systems so he fits their doctrine that all eschatology has been fulfilled, but Nero failed to meet many of the Scriptural criteria for the "beast". For example, he DIED, in fronta witnesses, while the true beast & his deputy the false prophet, are to be cast alive into the lake of fire.

We may not discover who 666 is til he's actually here and in power.
