Number 6 is stupid. I know a ton of people who are both hard working & responsible parents & responsible in allot of ways but they got downsized, squeezed by the system, put in predicaments that are unbelievable......so forget your Hard Truths BS....cause it isn't. And the author can crawl back into his NEOCON hole &.....well. It appears you dont get out much to put cred to this crap.

Oh I get out plenty. And yes circumstances do happen, they happen to me. I have been downsized, been fired, had my employer go bankrupt and had the location where I work closed. I have seen sickness and circumstances happen, yet despite all of that, I still managed to keep my family together and avoid bankruptcy. I have been on unemployment, I have enrolled my kids is SCHIP. But those were short term assistance so I could get my house in order. Short term you might need some help, but for the rest of your life?

In America today there is no reason for you to be on long term governmental assistance unless you are physically disabled. Take the masses of government serfs and remove those who:
1. Failed to finish high school (no excuse for this)
2. Had children before they were married
3. Used illegal drugs.

How many are you going to have left EWF? 5% maybe? I really don’t know.

I stand by what I have said because the article makes no provisions for people that have been caught up in this present economic mess so until the author extends himself to "Complete" character & socioeconomic analysis, my review still remains as is.....IE, the article is crap.

I agree with the first point - at least up to the point where the author makes the snide jab at former Senator Ted Kennedy. This actually doesn't really do anything but make the author look petty and juvenile. Senator Kennedy is not only no longer in office, he has passed away. He might want to try coming up with something fresh, not a Coulteresque jab that references an event that happened over 40 years ago......

I only wish more liberals were making point number one. That is where liberals are failing. We need a term like the Tea Party has used - perhaps "LINO" or "AILC" (my personal favorite).

Points 2 - 6: substitute the word "authoritarian" for "liberal," and the author is spot on.

When I drove taxi, we contracted with the disabilities office and proved taxi rides to the elderly and disabled.

I drove MANY disabled to work. Several were blind - others had other disabilities as well.
These folks had to pay $2 for a taxi ride - yes the ride was subsided by the govt - but at least they were contributing to the economy. One one other thing I might have up to 4 passengers in my car at once.

I would also pick up Medicaid patients - for trips to the doctor. HOWEVER - we are not allowed to have more than one Medicaid rider at a time - AND THEY DID NOT PAY ANYTHING for their ride.

Unless someone is in a coma, there is a job they can do.

Well, for starters, all the telphone operators at the Syur VA are blind (execpt for one or two)......
Lots of different places.

The point is - a disibility does not necessarily keep you from getting a job.

They are a non profit and do receive some government money. They employ many levels of disabled, some are in wheelchairs, some are severly mentally handicapped. They have non disabled workers that work with them and they do what they can. Some fold, some sort, some can do prep work, some sweep the floor. They have about 200 employees and about half have a disability.

Some of the disabled workers are there short time due to an injury and some are permanently disabled and will never be able to work a normal job. But they are all hard working people.

The company sews tactical gear for the military. That rucksack or ammo pouch our soldiers are carrying in Iraq or Afganistan likely was put together there.

Staying on welfare seems to be the popular solution, since there is no incentive to go to work. Having another illegitimate child works for some. It's like a raise in pay.

Or better yet, stay on what seemingly is perpetual unemployment compensation. It's better than looking for a job. :thumbs:

I know a man with an MS in Electrical Engineering who got laid off. Because he was over 60 nobody wanted to hire him because they knew he would be leaving in a year or two.

He now works in a car wash. He makes minimum wage. He doesn't have a lot of money, but he has loads of dignity and self respect.
