One thing I miss is hearing Taps at 2200. I always had on post housing, so I'd always hear it. To this day, it's very calming to me.I don't remember the pledge ever being recited at any military function I attended.
I do remember the call to the colors on the Air Force Base where I was stationed.
As the flag was raised or lowered we were required to salute in the direction of the flag.
If driving a car we were to stop, get out of the car and salute.

I remember hearing it but I don't remember for why unless of course it was a funeral. One thing I miss is hearing Taps at 2200. I always had on post housing, so I'd always hear it. To this day, it's very calming to me.

I found the OP to be interesting - in that a GI in uniform is to remain silent during the Pledge of Allegiance.
But then again - Never once, have I had the pledge recited when in military formation.
Did not have reveille either at my PPS in Griffiss AFB Rome, NY.I posted the links to Taps and Tattoo in response to Sapper's post on another thread. Reveille might also be useful in cases where waking a person up could be problematical. Mind you, Ach, du leiber Augustine is tune played for reveille by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.

They also have fake bugles that play at a push of a button when needed (I was a one time bugle player). As far as I know, every bugle call I ever heard in the army was recorded. But here is a little known fact. The US Army is the largest employer of musicians in the world.
Interesting. I only recall hearing reveille, retreat, to the colors. But never saw the bugler. They also have fake bugles that play at a push of a button when needed (I was a one time bugle player).
We were tasked for funeral detail for a while, and we had one of those fake bugles. Another time, we had a real bugle, but the music was played on a CD player. They also have fake bugles that play at a push of a button when needed (I was a one time bugle player).
