A Militia Group Detained Migrants at the Border. The ACLU Calls It Kidnapping

A spokesman for New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said state and local authorities are looking into the matter.
"They have absolutely not been authorized by our office or any other. We are actively working with the AG's Office, state police and local police to determine what has gone on and what can and will be done," said Tripp Stelnicki, a spokesman for the governor. "That migrant families might be menaced or threatened in any way, shape or form is completely unacceptable."
CBP says it doesn't condone civilians interfering in law enforcement matters Asked about the United Constitutional Patriots and the videos the group has posted online, a US Customs and Border Protection spokesman declined to comment on the group itself or the social media posts, but said the agency "does not endorse or condone private groups or organizations taking enforcement measures into their own hands."
"Interference by civilians in law enforcement matters could have public safety and legal consequences for all parties involved," the spokesman said in a written statement, referring those who suspect illegal activity to call 911 or contact the agency directly. "Border Security operations are complex and require highly trained professionals with adequate resources to protect the country."
The Border Patrol is calling the actions of this militia unwanted and illegal. The leader of this militia group has now been arrested.
That's not required. All they have to do is request asylum at a crossing.

I have read it. I quoted it yesterday. It does not answer either of my questions.
Most of these people have traveled hundreds of miles to get to the U.S. The distance from Guatemala to the closest border point is 1,500 miles. Do you really think 10 miles is a big deal to them?
So they navigated across half the continent or more, and then missed Juarez (where there is a US Consulate) and El Paso (where the border crossing is) and ended up in Sunland Park? Lol...
Again, why would a local news article, that calls the actions of the "militia" ilegal, still refer to the people they detained as illegal immigrants?
Look, we can disagree about immigration policy in this country. If you want open borders, you have a right to your opinion. But lets at least be honest about what we're discussing.
I'm being honest. I don't want open borders. I simply don't want Trump refusing to take immigrants legally applying for asylum and separating children from their parents. I also don't think 'Trump's wall" is the best way to secure our borders. It's just another thing he's focused on because he doesn't understand the real issues. Ask the local newspaper about their story or for once provide something of your own.
That is because you do not understand the purpose in the wall.
If we were guarding the border right, it would be.

No, it is dishonest spin. The truth is that these people have designs on America and are entering illegally. If they truly need asylum, they could and should apply much earlier.
There is no proof that such people travel with their own children, or that they qualify for asylum. In any case, they gravely endanger children, so such arguments are disingenuous spin.
The second amendment does not give anyone the right to take the law into their own hands. The FBI arrested the criminal leader of this militia and both the gov. and the Border Patrol said they are a hindrance to enforcing the law.

Try to follow the statement made and what it entails. Your understanding is exactly backward. The US Constitution, including its amendments, are fundamental to all other laws of the land. If a law violates the constitution, then it is to be regarded as unconstitutional and therefore invalid.
Agreed. They were however exercising their 2nd Amendment rights and also the New Mexico constitution's right to bear arms. There was just a video played on national television yesterday that showed some heavily armed smugglers bringing some Central Americans to the border, and this shows that the border area is indeed a dangerous place.
All Americans have the right to make "Citizen's Arrests" of people who are breaking the law and hold them for the authorities, now the authorities might not want them doing that, but they are doing it nonetheless.
Okay, let's forget about the wall and put our military there to stop all this madness. And I'm not talking unarmed forces, but heavily armed soldiers doing routine patrols to interdict the drugs and the illegal entrants. I think that is part and parcel of why we have a military, to protect the national sovereignty of the nation. What we have there right now is defacto open borders and we have the right shut it up tight.
So are you game for that?
We all know this asylum business is a ruse. Ninety percent of them are not in fear of being persecuted by their own governments and the idea is to get in here and not show up for their court hearing. I am sorry, but some woman in fear of getting beat up by her husband is not a matter that entitles her to sanctuary here in America, but it is a matter for the criminal justice system in her own country.
