This is a strange thread. You would think that Christians could see that exposing one self is for appeasing the flesh. What purpose is it for people to see how far they can push the envelope on decency? Is the term "modest" that hard to understand. God help us!!

Modest or immodest, this is nothing more than a crass appeal to the flesh. As the title of this thread aptly calls it, a "gimmick."

The only illustration the gospel needs is a godly life.

Perhaps I stand alone I this but I don't really give a care. If one person reads this magazine and learns something, or even better, is brought to faith in Jesus Christ, great! If no one does, then at least the pages and ink were wasted on printing the NT and not Redbook, Cosmo, Teen, People, etc.

As for the woman on the front, you guys are missing the point. The godliness of this magazine has nothing to do with the modesty of the woman on the front but whether it comes in a thinline version.

Knowledge of your daughter's peers, her body type, a smattering of teen-trend literacy (for example, pop star Gwen Stefani no longer wears a bindi between her eyes) and the stores where better styles can be found.

To a teen, clothing is a life and death issue. They want to fit in, they want to look pretty, they want to show the world who they are and they don't want to be ridiculed. Such intense expectations can lead to terrible tensions at the cash register and a secret wardrobe of clothes stashed in school lockers and backpacks. To help your girl go to school in the clothes she actually left the house wearing takes smarts and sensitivity. Try and remember what you wanted so desperately at the age of 15… Madonna boots? Fish nets? Teased hair? And smile at your present parental dilemma.

I gotta disagree a bit. We weren't put here to serve the Bible, the Bible was put here to serve us (we are to serve only God). Call it gimmicky if ya like, but if the problem is the package, change the package. So long as the words within are intact, I don't see the problem.

Ok, I agree. Neither are thighes, knees, legs, ankles, or toes. Neither are backbones or ribs. So I don't understand why they just don't let someone in a miniskirt and tank top pose for the "cover girl" on the Holy Bible. :confused: After all, even if they ARE provocative, more people will buy it and possibly read it.

The first thing I saw when I looked atthat first magazine cover was that the girl was not dressed enough.
Makes me wonder what she had on her lower body, a mini skirt perhaps?
The less skin the better. Skirts below the knees. There are too many idiots out there that look at a young teen girl and fantasize. Get a teen that is all covered up and it will act as a shield. Now you can't help what people fantasize about, but, some people are not really in control of their own minds I will say.
Why provoke a rape, or molestation, or fondeling.

Ladies, girls, keep it covered. Let it be a surprise for that one special man that is your husband.
Men, you also need to cover it up. Thoes Bikini bathing suits.... :eek: And the spandex running shorts.... come one guys, cover it up. approriate shorts and a tee is great.
And not the shorts that are so loose that when your on the ground working on the car you can see up the leg. :rolleyes:

Now about teens wanting to dress like Britney. I have a teen that is "into" britney. I am not happy about it and I have been working hard to show her that Britney is not what she seems. I don't allow my daughter to dress like her. I didn't see it, but I was told at the music awards last week seems like Britney and 2 other girl performers were engaged in lesbian activity.
My daughter was horrified when I told her about this. Maybe this was the edge I needed to open her eyes.

I say if it ain't for sell then don't advertize it.

I want my daughters to have Godly examples and something that is supposed to be a bible should have some kind of good example....It doesn't matter if it is for teens or not because teens can be Godly too if we teach them.

The concept is a neat idea, but then these girls will see the pictures of these teens that dress provocatively and will think "well hey, this is the bible so it must be ok." Beauty secrets, are you dating a Godly man, Blab Q & A.... So now we have gossip, teens thinking its ok to date, and wear makeup.

If the content was different I may go for it. If the girls were dressed modestly and it would depend on the articles. If you look on the cover it says beauty tips inside. It's hogwash. That magazine is not out to teach the kids Gods word, its just another way for the media to suck in our teens.

I will still stand firm and say no, the magazine isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Here is a concept, bring the bible back into the schools.

Get a teen that knows the bible or a young adult who maybe is involved in his church and the ministry that kids would think is "cool" and make learning the bible fun for kids. There are ways of getting teens to read the bible but it has to start in the home. Not in a magazine with beauty tips for teens.... :eek:

All fine and well... so you are volunteering to go into the homes of kids with non-Christian parents and read the Bible to them, teaching them in the way they should go? Make sure you let your church know that you're willing to do that. I'm sure they'd love to plug you in to do it.

The fact is, we can fuss all day long about "this should happen" and "not worth the paper its printed on" but when push comes to shove, if anyone ANYONE comes to belief in Christ through this effort (however misguided some may think it is), it's worth it. One or 50,000... can you limit God? It's fine for you to say that you don't want your children reading this, but don't condemn it for others, who may not have loving parents like you very obviously are.

This of course is just my humble opinion.
