April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.

(T.S. Eliot, The Waste Land)

Many are now being called back to work, but refusing to go. Being paid too much unemployment compensation.

That has to be fixed.

The one thought I have (and I don't have all the details I have off the top of my heard) is that how long were they out of work before they got those payment - could it be that they need that extra unemployment to get back to where they were. As going back to work now would only put them back into that same position?

The Republicans tried to fix that before the bill was passed by the democrats in the house, but the democrats refused to change the text wanting to give away extra cash. Since the pressure was intense to get something done quick, they passed it. It created a big monetary incentive to go on unemployment which they noted and the MSM seemed to think it mean of republicans to want to change it, like they were against the unemployed workers. And now Pelosi and democrats are warming up to regular monthly payments to people as a guaranteed minimum income, who for whatever reason dont work or want to work.

Do you ever think we are living a strange land that we dont recognize anymore?

I think when the history of this pandemic is written that we will learn that all of this lockdown stuff ended up doing way more harm than good.

They also saw it as a way to keep the unemployment rate higher going into the election.

I did understand the mass layoffs at the beginning - as we were facing something in uncharted waters.

But I think we waited too long to re-start the economy.

I think so too, but hindsight is always 20/20. If we could do it over again, knowing what we know now, a simple quarantine and financial support of the vulnerable would have been sufficient.

The problem is it may happen again later this year. Democrats will try to make it happen in October and last through election day.

Vote by mail, doncha know?
