A Response to our President's Moral Leadership

I sent this to Don Lemon, the Anchor of CNN Tonight, after the terrible speech by President Trump on Charlottesville, as I was moved by emotion at the time.

Hello Don Lemon,

As a fundamentalist Christian who catches the show fairly often, I must say that Donald Trump has not changed in terms of his character since he entered the Republican Primary.

Among my friends at church, it was decided, when he won the nomination for President, that this meant most Republicans no longer cared at all about the character of those they elect. Truly a dark moment in American history.

After all of this time, and having won the presidency, Donald Trump still lacks character. As Jesus said, good trees bear good fruit and bad trees bear bad fruit. Thus, Donald Trump cannot give, impart, or teach us what he does not already have.

The man that won the nomination was morally unfit to be president, so I decided, wisely it seems given my own conscience, to avoid voting for president and vote for other political races based on the issues, as always for me. I feel like I must defend not voting for Secretary Clinton. I did not vote for her, since she was far, far too socially liberal for me to support with a clean conscience.

I decided to share my story with you, as it hit its emotional high with tonight's show. CNN is doing a great job recruiting African American analyst and journalists to present the perspective of black people all over this country in such racially divided time.

Thank you, Our Father in heaven bless you, and I must pray for all the 24 hour news employees I watch so often now.

I hope this doesn't offend you, but I pray that you and all your loved ones will come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior if that is not yet so. In Jesus' name, let it be so.​

On my end, at least Republicans are coming out against the president in solid, unambiguous language.

Trump won because Hillary is a liar. He was the lesser of two evils. The Democrats may never again nominate a white person so that Bill Clinton might well be the last white Democrat as identity politics defines the Democrat Party to the detriment of the poor, especially rural poor. The GOP is too badly splintered to win in 2018 unless something happens before then to make the GOP agree on agenda and to keep their promise to end government inaction and decay. Otherwise, look for the next President to be a Cherokee Indian socialist.

Whoa Nelly, please don't hijack my thread with the popular vote vs electoral college debate. I like that you are trying to advance the thread, but please stay on topic and begin your own thread on the popular vote vs. electoral college debate. I'm not being angry or anything, I'm actually pretty happy right now as my medicine is treating my pain better today.

I realize after talking to a relative on this issue, that I should offer the following information on the presidency since it is not common knowledge.

From political science I know that the president of the United States is not only our political and military leader, but he is also one of the great moral leaders of the country along with America's clergy and social leaders. For instance, George Washington would lead the nation in prayer when he was president. That presidents are to speak at memorials and funerals and other such events, speaks to the need for the U.S. President, to in some way, lead the nation in terms of character and values in a way reminiscent of a pastor. Thus, presidents must lead militarily and politically, but also stand up to be a spiritual, moral, and social leader in the dark moments of our history.

I get now that this is not common knowledge, sorry I just didn't know.

I have also followed all the president's statements for the last few days and have been camped in my room watching FOX and CNN. From a political science point of view this is wild times, and that's before an almost certain military conflict with a nuclear power called North Korea (a topic I'll start another thread on soon).

If you think that Hillary, a liar, was a moral leader, or that Trump, a typical real estate tycoon, was a moral leader, I think you should re-consider. Furthermore, I don't know what Trump has done that is so immoral except that he condemned the Antifa as well as the white supremacists, etc. The gratuitous hatred of Trump by the left is what is immoral. There are people on this message board who daily attack whatever Trump has or has not done because they are seeking power for themselves. I don't like either extreme.

Neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump were capable of the kind of moral leadership this nation so desperately needs.

I myself am neither left nor right except on social issues, where I am a staunch social conservative, which I believe the bible supports. I stand for a theology based on a literal reading of the bible to base our politics on. I do not stand for an ideology as that is the wisdom of man.

I did not vote for Donald Trump, but I am praying that he does well. For that matter, I prayed that Barack Obama would do well as I did the presidents that preceded him. Unfortunately, we receive the leaders we deserve. American voters like to blame their elected leaders when in truth they need to blame themselves for voting for them.

Trumps speech was accurate. The more facts come out, the more accurate we see he was. Maybe the left will attack The Washington Monument next. He owned more slaves than the vast majority of Confederate Generals did. Possibly more than any Confederate General did.

I am sorry for being presumptuous, as you have pointed out. I do not speak for all Christians, and I do not represent Christian views beyond my own conclusions. I will have to be more careful how I present myself from now on.

I want to mention that I did not vote for Hillary as she was immoral herself. And I see it as a given that Democrats have abandoned good morality since they Lewinsky scandal.

I based my letter on the idea from the bible that we are to call evil, evil and call good, good from Isaiah 5:20. I believe evangelical leaders have not been doing the right thing in regards to the Trump Presidency and I felt I needed to speak out. I still feel I should speak out, but I see now I do so from my own biblical views alone.

So what was terrible about it?

Hard to answer as so many emotionally charged things come to mind, so I went to find a response on the 15th that impressed me. This is by Republican Rep for Virginia Scott Taylor:

Well, let me first say, you know, my sympathies and condolences out to Heather's family and the two troopers, of course. And for their families and their friends as well, too.

I think that leadership matters, there's no question about that, and it starts at the top. And, you know, this -- from the KKK, Nazis, the folks that are responsible for this rally, they're the ones that are 100 percent responsible for it. That doesn't excuse premeditated lawlessness from anybody, from anyone. But they are responsible for it and I think that we should speak out loudly and clearly and shame them because there's no home for hate anywhere in Virginia or in America.​

I liked this one because Rep Taylor was sympathetic to those who died. He was also fair, balanced, and still had the wherewithal to call out anti-white supremacists for inciting violence. A wise statement. The president seems to have acted foolishly and rashly and a variety of verses come to mind to show this. That he is a Believer only heightens the need to correct him.

It's more like I would have to watch his speech and write down a ton of things as I watched and then transcribe them here.

I'll go into generalities: the comments were rude, callous, and unsympathetic to the loved ones of the Christian woman, spiritual sister, who died. Turns out she is a regular attender of an evangelical church in Charlottesville. The president barely mentions her in a speech where he rails against the "alt-left" he calls them.

The president did not forcefully enough rail against the evils of white supremacy, instead taking the opportunity to dump much more criticism on the anti-protestors that were looking for a fight, members of the antifa movement. These anti-protestors did the wrong thing of course, but to be wise in this racially divided time would be to say like 3 or four times more criticisms of the KKK and white supremacists. Remembering to be fair and balanced about those that broke the law.

I keep thinking of Rehoboam after the speech.The foolish king who says foolish things that are not well thought out and counseled. Such a seemingly "small" sin in a leader turned out to divide Judah and Israel and lead to civil war.

I feel like I'm sill revving up big time, but I'll stop unless you would prefer that I go to his statement and criticize it piece by piece. Something I am willing to do.

The counter demonstrators started the violence. Like them or not, The Klan has Constitutional rights. Should Trump advocate denying them their rights?
U.S. citizens can hate whoever they want to hate. They can talk about that hate. They can demonstrate and carry signs about that hate.
