The California state convention's school "announced it was cutting its men’s swimming & diving, men’s golf and wrestling teams, citing 'ever evolving intercollegiate athletic landscape'."
But "groups formed to save the California Baptist University men’s swimming & diving and wrestling programs have come together to file a petition calling for Title IX reform. Keep CBU Swim & Dive and Keep CBU Wrestling announced Tuesday that they’re partnering with the American Sports Council and the Pacific Legal Foundation to petition to repeal the 1979 Policy Interpretation of Title IX".
The university's administration has responded to criticism by imposing gag orders:
"In an email that’s surfaced on social media, CBU assistant athletics director Matt Horrocks tells campus media that the school is 'putting a hold on any publicity for men’s swimming & diving, men’s golf, and wrestling.' Student journalists have reportedly been told not to cover the three sports for the remainder of the season."
The "wrestling team...planned on wearing 'Keep CBU Wrestling' singlets in their final home dual meet of the season, but the administration threatened to forfeit the match unless they wore the normal CBU gear."
